Laboratory Technician

Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform sample handling and prep for qualitative urine drug screens on a chemical analyzer.
• Ability to create batches and other tasks in the lab’s LIS (Laboratory Information System)Maintain chemical analyzer.
• Perform routine daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance.
• Accurately calibrate the instrument and analyze daily QC (Quality Control) samples.
• Properly record QC results and be able to identify and resolve any QC exceptions.
• Identify any instrument issues and be able to initiate troubleshooting steps.
• When necessary, notify the General Supervisor and/or contact technical support, if required.
• Follow the lab’s policies and procedures according to the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) to maintain sample integrity and produce high quality.
• Participate in proficiency testing and competency testing.
• Prepare reagents, calibrators and controls as required by the SOP.
• Maintain inventory of supplies / reagents for daily operation.
• Keep the lab area safe, clean, and organized.

Preferred Skills

• Previous experience in a laboratory environment.
• Experience with ThermoFisher IndikoPlus chemical analyzer would be an asset.
• Ability to accurately understand and follow written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Must be well-organized and demonstrate good record keeping abilities.
• Knowledge of a LIS (Laboratory Information System)Basic lab math calculation skillsProficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and Google Sheets.

Education / Experience:

• Bachelor's of Science degree in a natural science, Biology or Chemistry preferred, with at least 1-year prior laboratory experience
• OR
• Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) Associate’s degree, with at least 2 years prior laboratory experience.
• Preferred, but not required: ASCP certification, or equivalent.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
