Position Overview:
|
Ruidoso High School is seeking a dedicated and highly qualified High School Social Studies Teacher to deliver an engaging and academically rigorous curriculum for students in grades 9-12. The ideal candidate will foster a passion for historical inquiry, critical thinking, and civic engagement while implementing research-based instructional strategies and adapting lessons to meet the diverse needs of students.

Qualifications:
|
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Studies Education, or a related field.
Licensure:
- Must hold or be eligible for a valid Secondary New Mexico teaching license with an endorsement in Social Studies.
Skills:
- Strong instructional skills, classroom management abilities, and a passion for teaching history.
Technology Proficiency:
- Familiarity with educational technology tools (such as Google Classroom, Docs, Slides, and digital assessment tools).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in History, Education, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Experience teaching a variety of high school history courses, including U.S. History, World History, Government, Economics, and Geography.
- Prior teaching experience at the secondary level is preferred but not required.
- Experience integrating technology into instruction and utilizing data to drive student achievement.
- Strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and fostering a positive learning environment for all students.

Responsibilities:
|
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a high-quality social studies program that challenges and supports students of varying abilities.
- Develop and implement unit plans aligned with the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) standards and local district benchmarks.
- Utilize a variety of instructional methods, media, and assessments to accommodate different learning styles and needs.
- Create and maintain a structured and motivating classroom environment that fosters student engagement and achievement.
- Assess and evaluate student performance using both formative and summative methods; maintain accurate records and communicate progress effectively to students and parents.
- Provide differentiated instruction to support both struggling learners and advanced students.
- Foster critical thinking, historical analysis, and the application of historical knowledge to current events.
- Manage student behavior in a positive and consistent manner that aligns with school policies.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to enhance student learning and the overall school environment.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and Professional Learning Teams.
- Maintain open communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic needs.
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities, including school events such as assemblies and civic engagement opportunities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the principal or school administration.
Possible Physical Requirements:

- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the classroom for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry instructional materials, books, and classroom equipment (up to 25 pounds).
- Ability to reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch to engage with students at different levels.
- Ability to supervise students in both indoor and outdoor settings, including field trips and school events.
