Pay Range: $37.98/hr-$55.10/hr

Position Summary:

 This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Saddleback Medical Center. The Surgical Technician III is responsible for providing surgical assistance in a safe, appropriate and effective manner under the direction of a Registered Nurse/MD, in compliance with the Surgical Technician standards of practice. It is not within the scope of practice of the Surgical Technician to perform beyond their stated scope of practice (e.g. assessment, evaluation of patient data, administration of medications), even when requested by a Surgeon. Additional responsibilities include but not limited to provision of availability/maintenance of instruments, adherence to aseptic technique, advanced knowledge of surgical procedures and support to patient flow within department. Provides support and communicates directly with surgical team and supervisory staff. The Surgical Technician must use effective oral communication and participate in aspects of documentation. In addition, the Surgical Technician collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.

5. Serves as a preceptor for new employees/students in the scrub role.

6. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights.

7. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial and other sensitive material in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and or employees.

8. Demonstrates the ability to use good customer service skills by managing and acknowledging patient-family-significant other expectations.

9. Demonstrates tact, sensitivity and discretion.

10. Demonstrates the ability to integrate knowledge of job specific competencies.

11. Demonstrates continual development of clinical expertise and current knowledge of healthcare trends and education related to performance.

12. Ability to be at work and be on time.

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

Qualifications/Work Experience

·         Minimum of (5) five years surgical technician experience required

·         Completion of Surgical Technologist program preferred

·         Computer, internet, order entry and word processing experience preferred

·         Proficient in medical terminology

·         Proficient in scrubbing a minimum of 4 specialties required

Education/Licensure/Certification

·         Graduation from a surgical scrub technician program, armed services training program, or equivalent training required

·         Current American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support Card required

·         American Surgical Technologists (AST) certification preferred

·         Scrub Tech Certification preferred
