Position Title: Child and Youth Victim Advocate
Reports To: Shelter Director and Shelter Lead
Position Summary: The position provides direct services to child and youth victims of domestic violence and/or sexual violence. The Child and Youth Victim Advocate will work closely with other shelter advocates to provide trauma informed services for children, youth and parents impacted by domestic/sexual violence. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with DCF, FCASV, VOCA and agency requirements.
The position is with Safe Place And Rape Crisis Center, Inc (SPARCC) the state certified Domestic and Sexual Violence agency for Sarasota and DeSoto County. This is a part-time position, 16-24 hours a week; flexible schedule but will be evening and weekend shifts (after training is completed). Home office would be SPARCC’s Shelter, undisclosed location.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide direct crisis intervention and safety planning with a focus on services to minor aged primary and secondary victims of domestic/sexual violence and their guardians, in accordance with agency requirements
- Provide helpline crisis counseling to victims of domestic and sexual violence via the hotline
- Conduct healing activities and children’s programming with minors aged victims of crime
- Communicate Shelter issues with incoming/outgoing staff and maintain happenings log regrading victims of crime
- Participate in trainings to meet continuing education and certification requirements
- Keep Supervisor apprised of activities, informally and by written word
- Perform other duties as necessary or assigned
Education or Equivalent: Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice or social work/mental health field or related human services field preferred; related work experience may be substituted for education. Prior experience working directly with youth including but not limited to at-risk populations. Prior experiences working with art and play therapeutic techniques preferred. Prior experience working with the Department of Children and Families, Safe Children Coalition and Dependency Court preferred. Prior experience in providing domestic/ sexual violence intervention services preferred.
Knowledge/Skills Requirements: Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills and personal computer skills. Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and related community resources. Significant knowledge and commitment to feminist, domestic violence, and sexual violence doctrines. Must pass Florida Department of Law Enforcement criminal background check, be eligible to work in the U.S., have reliable transportation and a valid Florida driver's license. Upon hiring: must pass CORE Competency Training for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault; pass and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification; successfully obtain Victims Compensation and address confidentiality applicant assistance certifications from the Office of the Attorney General; and document 16 hours of approved continuing education annually, with at least 8 hours in trainings related to sexual assault.
Physical Requirements: Position requires physical ability to lift approximately 25 lbs., sit or be on feet for extend periods of time, bend freely, and reach objects over head. Must be able to converse on a telephone and use a keyboard effectively.

Compensation: Range $21.15 - $25 per hour, commensurate with education and experience
Relocation Expense: SPARCC does not provide relocation expenses.
