We offer our customers a state of the art facility with high-tech security and climate control. We also provide our customers storage advice (how to estimate the amount of space needed and how to pack a storage unit effectively), materials for moving and storing possessions such as boxes, pads, dollies, etc., moving and packing tips and will accept commercial deliveries without the customer being present.

Position Overview:

This position will report to the Chief Executive Officer and is a member of the executive management team. Provide overall strategic human resources leadership and consulting support to company executives and management on matters of goal setting, policy development and strategy implementation in support of achieving corporate objectives and business growth. This position is very tactical in nature as well as being strategic – it requires a “roll up your sleeves” approach to getting things done. Develop and implement human resources policies, programs and services, including recruitment, selection, retention, training, legal compliance, performance management, employee benefits, employee relations/EEO, pay and incentive structure and design, employment practices and procedures, and employee communication. This position will be responsible for strategic human resources planning to provide the company with the best people talent available to position the company as a preferred employer. Partner with other executive management to create and maintain a work environment with high morale and productivity.

Essential Functions:

Business Strategy

  • Using overall company goals as a basis, establishes HR strategic goals, direction and operational plans. Participate as a strategic partner in the development of the company’s goals, objectives, and business plans.

Recruitment

  • Develop a selection and assessment process for the organization to allow the organization to embrace applicants and employees of all backgrounds. This incorporates a selection interview guide, behavioral interview questions, reference checking, background verification and drug testing. Ensure job descriptions are reviewed and updated on a regular basis.
  • Maintain department staffing plans and hiring goals with each department executive.
  • Evaluate and maintain sourcing strategies to identify top talent in the marketplace. Develop relationships with targeted organizations and individuals to increase flow of talent into the company.
  • Maintain and update an effective on-boarding/orientation process with appropriate on-boarding materials.
  • Maintain and update retention programs to retain quality talent at all levels in the organization.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Develop progressive and proactive compensation and benefits programs to provide motivation, incentives and rewards for effective performance.
  • Ensure salary benchmarking by district is completed on an as needed basis for key positions within the organization to ensure internal and external competitiveness.
  • Develop meaningful career paths, where feasible, for each division.
  • Maintain and update an effective payroll process is in place to achieve timely and accurate payroll administration and HRIS reporting.
  • Oversee employee benefit programs including medical, dental, life, and disability insurance, supplemental medical, 401 (k) plan, personal time off and sick leave processing and unemployment compensation.
  • Review benefit programs on an annual basis to ensure competitiveness in programs provided and cost effectiveness to the company and employees.
  • Coordinate and maintain other company insurances such as workers compensation, personal liability, etc.
  • Act as a Trustee to the Safeguard Operations LLC 401K Plan.

Training and Development

  • Work with the executive team to identify and prioritize training and development needs within each division.
  • Design, develop and implement operational training programs for field staff. This includes defining training needs, oversight and review of new training programs, modules and tools, vendor/consultant selection and modification of programs based on performance measurement and feedback.

Employee Relations

  • Act as a senior level advisor on human resources issues at all levels of employees throughout the company. This includes providing direction and counsel management on development, performance, disciplinary, hiring, termination and other HR issues. Oversees and directs the investigation of HR related complaints, and as needed, represents the company at mediations, hearings, and other legal proceedings.

Organization Development

  • Identify the human capital metrics which will be tracked and measured to gauge organizational performance and business success.
  • Develop and implement a succession planning process for the key management positions within the organization where feasible.
  • Develop and administer an effective performance management system for the company.

Policy & Procedure Development and Administration

  • Develop, implement and monitor the consistent application and administration of human resources policies and procedures.
  • Plan and recommend human resources budgets, manage expenditures, and report on budget variances.

Employee Communication

  • In partnership with executive management, maintain a corporate employee communication plan to ensure employees are informed of organizational information pertaining to the business, programs and policies, and updates in benefits and compensation in a timely and consistent manner.

Skill Requirements:

  • A minimum of ten years of increasing HR responsible experience in a leadership human resources role; at least five years of staff management experience; minimum of two years experience interfacing with C-Level executives
  • Retail and / or storage industry experience is a plus
  • A strong Human Resources generalist background with strengths in employee relations, recruitment, compensation analysis, and organizational development
  • Demonstrated strengths in the functional and strategic aspects of human resources
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interface with all levels of management and employees
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills to address all levels of employees within the organization
  • Detail oriented

  • Ability to measure ROI of programs and initiatives
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to negotiate conflict and maintain constructive working relationships
  • Knowledgeable of regulations, industry trends, current practices and applicable laws regarding human resources.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and develop an effective functional infrastructure

Educational/Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development or related field
  • Professional certification: PHR or SPHR level, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP, and/or M.S./M.B.A. in related field is preferred
