General Information
The Federal Program Offices is looking to hire a full-time education assistant 2 for the Title I Homeless Program.
Spanish Speaking Preferred.
The Title I Homeless Program provides special services to children attending St. Paul Public Schools who are in homeless situations. The Educational Assistant will assist these students with enrollment, transportation, and needed resources. The person will also function as the liaison between the school, the family, and the shelters (when appropriate). The person in this position will work under the direction of the Program Supervisor and School Social Workers in the Title I Homeless Program.
One of the following:
- An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, OR
- Two years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution of higher education which are applicable toward a bachelor's degree, OR
- Passing score on the ParaPro or Paraeducator Assessment AND either a high school diploma or a GED certificate.
- Experience with Outlook, Campus and computer data entry skills
- An understanding of cultural issues and ability to work effectively with persons representing diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds including the homeless.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to adapt to non-traditional environments such as hotels, motels, cars, drop-in centers, sub-standard housing etc.
- Knowledge of SPPS, enrollment procedures and programs (area, neighborhood and ED/ALC programs).
- Ability to understand/respect Data Privacy and Confidentiality Laws
- Ability to assess crisis situations and implement appropriate intervention.
- Excellent Communications skills both oral and written.
- Knowledge of McKinney-Vento, Orders of Protection, Dynamics of Family Violence, Shelter Systems, and Community and Cultural Resources.
- Ability to determine McKinney-Vento eligibility, inform parents, students and schools of decision.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with outside agencies (shelters and county).
- Ability to work with families in transition and crisis.
- Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with building administrators, teachers, social workers, parents and the Title I Homeless Team
PAY, BENEFITS, AND WORK SCHEDULE
This is a 10-month position working 37.5 hours per week.
Pay range for this position is: $25.04 - $39.31 EA2
Maximum hiring step EA2 = step fifteen (15)
