Job Description: Kiln Technician
Position: Kiln Technician (Contract, Part-Time)
Location: Salt Lake Pottery Studio
Schedule: 1 Day per Week
Pay: $17 - $25 per Hour (depending on experience)
Salt Lake Pottery Studio is seeking a knowledgeable and dependable Kiln Technician to join our team. This part-time, contract position will require one day a week of work, where you’ll be responsible for the loading and unloading of kilns, maintaining kiln shelves, and ensuring that members' work is properly sorted and stored.
Key Responsibilities:
- Kiln Loading & Unloading: Properly load and unload kilns, ensuring that all work is fired correctly and safely.
- Kiln Shelf Maintenance: Maintain kiln shelves by sanding them down and applying kiln wash to ensure they are in optimal condition for firing.
- Organization & Sorting: Sort and organize members' work, student pieces, and event work, placing items on the correct shelves for easy access and storage.
- Member Engagement: Interact with studio members in a friendly, approachable manner, offering assistance when needed and maintaining a positive studio environment.
- Safety & Cleanliness: Follow all safety procedures for kiln operation and ensure the studio is kept clean and orderly.
Qualifications:
- Experience with Kiln Operation: Proven experience with loading and unloading kilns, kiln shelf maintenance, and basic kiln firing processes.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities, with an eye for detail to ensure that pieces are sorted and stored properly.
- Friendly & Professional: Must be able to engage with studio members and students in a helpful, professional, and approachable manner.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move items (up to 25 lbs), and perform tasks that may involve standing for extended periods.

- Contract Position: This is a contract, part-time role with in-person work required at the studio.
- Pay Range: $17 - $25 per hour, based on experience.
