Primary Responsibilities-
Under the direction of the Director of IMC Athletics and External Engagement, the Manager of Athletics Marketing will be responsible for developing and implementing marketing and promotional strategies to enhance attendance, fan experience during athletic events, and overall brand growth. Develops and oversees the implementation of successful marketing plans for intercollegiate athletic teams and events. Prepares and executes detailed game scripts, including music direction, video content, public address announcements, and spirit squads, ensuring a high-quality fan experience for assigned sports. Promotes revenue generation opportunities and coordinates sponsorship activation and in-game presentations. Acts as a liaison for campus spirit groups and student organizations and schedules/coordinates event entertainment (halftime/intermission acts, national anthem singers, etc.) at Sam Houston Athletics home contests. Collaborates with sports teams to create seasonal event packages and promotional events. Assists in publishing content onto various social media platforms and works closely with third-party sports properties to create attractive promotional packages for sponsorships. Works with Ticket Operations and Ticket Sales to develop and implement season, single game, and group sales campaigns and coordinates with communications, media production, ticketing, and event management to ensure that the fan experience is a priority at all events. Assists in hiring students or part-time staff to provide marketing support for athletic events, supervising athletic marketing students to achieve department marketing objectives and timelines, and develops student and marketing staff work schedules. Develops and implements events and promotions that would make up seasonal marketing calendars. Works with vendors on and off campus to produce necessary promotional/support items for events while operating with established budgets. Establishes goals and strategies for assigned projects. Assists the Assistant Director for Fan Engagement in implementing marketing, promotions, and ticketing programs for the Department of Athletics through the Sam Houston State University Integrated Marketing Communications Division.Other Details:
An organized and motivated leader committed to customer service and high standards for quality work is required. Requires excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail. Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Ability to manage business functions. Communicates with other university departments, personnel, and other agencies. Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and related software is preferred.Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
Education and Experience- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Management, Communications, Public Relations, or Sports Management or in a related field. One year of experience in a related field. Experience in collegiate athletics is preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
