(EMERGENCY SERVICES) Emergency Management Coordinator

SALARY: Begins at $59,736/Year with comprehensive benefits package

The Sampson County Emergency Management Coordinator is responsible for the planning and administration of programs to protect the civilian population, preserve the continuity of county government and protect infrastructure and natural resources, and minimize the effects of disasters. Work is performed under the general direction of the Emergency Services Director.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and implement a comprehensive emergency management program; develop, review, recommend, and update emergency plans for internal and external stakeholders; collaborate with various agencies and county departments to improve response capabilities; respond frequently to emergencies and manage incidents and conduct investigations; facilitates and conducts training classes and exercises; applies for and manages grants; maintains operational readiness and associated records; insures compliance with State and Federal regulations; develops and delivers community outreach programs; receives and responds to public inquiries and concerns; and performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE: Comprehensive knowledge of laws and ordinances pertaining to emergency management, grant management and methods of readily ascertaining the presence of existing or potential hazards; ability to read maps and interpret plans, recognize hazards, make recommendations for correction, work independently, observe carefully, and exercise independent judgement and initiative, plan and manage time effectively, prepare and maintain concise records, and establish and maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree with coursework in business or public administration or related field and extensive experience in fire suppression/investigation, EMS, emergency dispatch and emergency management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800; Valid NC Commercial driver's license with Class B endorsement; Complete Emergency Management and Land Search Management training within two years of hire; Complete the Associate or Executive Emergency Manager designation from the NC Emergency Management Association within two years of hire; Assume leadership role during emergencies; Respond to emergencies and investigations after hours, weekends and holidays.
