This position is responsible for coordinating accessibility services for San Juan College students.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Promotes college compliance with relevant state and federal laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Collaborates with other college personnel on institutional safety policies and procedures.
- Coordinates academic accommodations for students; assesses student needs, determines eligibility, and approves and coordinates academic accommodations; monitors support systems for students with disabilities; facilitates communication between faculty, campus departments and students that support student success.
- Oversees the operations of the Accessibility Services Office in person; oversees the functions of the Accessibility Services Accessibility Training Specialist; manages the office budget; sets program goals.
- Maintains electronic records and assesses accommodation services.
- Performs outreach to community resources, including area schools.
- Maintains the Accessibility Services Handbook.
- Hires, trains, , coaches, supervises, evaluates staff and student workers.
- Prepares and presents workshops for students, staff and faculty.
- Performs related duties.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Testing & Accessibility Center Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include Americans with Disabilities Act regulations, the Accessibility Services Handbook, and college and program policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The purpose of this position is to coordinate the provision of disability services to San Juan College students. Success in this position results in the efficient and effective provision of those services.

- Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college personnel, faculty, staff, students, and members of the general public.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, to provide services, or to motivate or influence persons.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
- The work is typically performed in an office.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has direct supervision over Accessibility Training Specialist (1) and other temporary or contract personnel as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.
