The San Rafael Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Marin County's seat, is a collaborative organization of member businesses from San Rafael, Marin, and the Bay Area that works with local and regional officials, community organizations, and members to uphold San Rafael as an exceptional place to both live and do business. The Chamber is dedicated to strengthening the local economy, promoting and connecting the community, representing businesses to the government, providing quality networking opportunities, and engaging in political action. Members have the chance to participate in monthly programs, committees, annual events, and networking opportunities to promote their business, address common concerns, and boost the vitality of the San Rafael and Marin business community.


Role Description

The Communications & Events Manager is responsible for developing and executing effective communication strategies and coordinating engaging events that support the Chamber’s mission, promote member engagement, and enhance the Chamber’s visibility in the community. This role manages the Chamber’s digital presence, including newsletters, social media, and website content, while also planning and executing a variety of events—from networking mixers to large-scale forums and fundraisers. The ideal candidate is a creative, detail-oriented communicator with strong project management skills and experience in event planning, marketing, and stakeholder engagement.


Primary Responsibilities

Event Planning & Execution

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute a variety of Chamber events including networking mixers, business expos, luncheons, panel discussions, and signature annual events.
  • Manage event logistics including venue selection, vendor coordination, registrations, sponsorship fulfillment, and day-of support.
  • Develop and track event budgets, timelines, and post-event evaluations to ensure continuous improvement.


Communications & Marketing

  • Create and manage content for Chamber newsletters, press releases, website, blog posts, and social media platforms.
  • Develop and implement marketing campaigns to promote Chamber events, initiatives, and member benefits.
  • Ensure consistent brand voice and visual identity across all communications.


Member Engagement & Promotion

  • Promote member programs and business spotlights through digital and print channels.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop messaging that drives member engagement and retention.
  • Serve as a point of contact for members participating in events or seeking promotional opportunities.

Media & Public Relations

  • Build and maintain relationships with local media and community partners.
  • Draft and distribute media advisories, event announcements, and press releases as needed.


Data & Analytics

  • Track and report on engagement metrics for email campaigns, social media, and event attendance.
  • Use data to inform future strategies and improve outreach effectiveness.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, or a related field is a plus.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities, enabling the establishment of relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Suite and learning new software with additional guidance.
  • Proficient in utilizing membership management software a plus.


  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make data-driven decisions.


  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Experience in implementing online and offline marketing initiatives to promote membership.
  • Ability to relate to and work effectively with people of all ages from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  • Spanish language fluency is preferred.
