Organization: Sanctuary of Hope (SOH) is a county-wide nonprofit that provides prevention and stabilization services to Transitional Age Youth (TAY), ages 16-25, who are housing or economic insecure, child welfare or justice impacted, domestic violence and trafficking survivors, expectant and parenting youth, and at-promise in South Los Angeles, Compton, Antelope Valley, and the South Bay. SOH helps youth and young adults bolster their resilience by helping them overcome poverty, trauma, low educational achievement, unemployment, and lack of well-being.
Summary: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Human Resource Generalist will run the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
- Collects and reviews timesheets for accuracy and completeness and submits payroll information via Gusto.
- Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
- Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs. Ensure that I-9 forms and other new hire documents are completed timely and accurately.
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Partner with Human Resources Consultant on human resources-related matters including, but not limited to, annual review and update of Employee Handbook to incorporate regulatory changes, leave of absence administration, and termination processes.
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
Qualifications:
- At least one year of human resource management experience preferred.
- PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
- Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to planning
- Ability to work collaboratively, but independently
- Ability to pass a criminal and child abuse index background check
- Reliable transportation
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Valid California Driver’s License and proof of auto insurance
- TB Test Clearance
