Director of Engineering

Position Summary:

The Director of Engineering at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort is responsible for overseeing the engineering operations and maintenance across the resort's vast 2400-acre property. This role involves managing the engineering team, ensuring the highest standards of safety and efficiency, and implementing long-term strategic plans for infrastructure improvement and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leadership and Management:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, technicians, and maintenance personnel.
  • Establish and monitor performance standards and ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with other departments to support resort operations and enhance guest experience.
  • Responsible for the financials for Engineering, cost reduction, budget and forecasting.
  • Team building, mentoring and developing.
• Maintenance and Operations:
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of all resort facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural systems.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of all mechanical and technical systems across the resort, including recreational facilities, accommodation units, and common areas.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to extend the life of equipment and facilities.
• Project Management:
  • Plan, budget, and oversee all engineering projects, including renovations, new constructions, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Manage relationships with contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the specified quality standards.
• Sustainability and Innovation:
  • Promote and implement sustainable practices and green initiatives to reduce the resort’s environmental footprint.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technological advancements to drive innovation in resort operations.
  • Develop and manage energy efficiency programs to optimize resource usage and reduce costs.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in the hospitality or resort industry.
• Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Proven experience in project management, including budgeting, scheduling, and contractor management.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work on-site across the expansive 2400-acre resort, involving extensive walking, standing, and occasional climbing.
• Capability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Ability to operate and inspect various engineering systems and equipment, sometimes in confined spaces or at heights.
• Working outside in the elements as needed.
• Standing for long periods of time.
• Climbing ladders if needed.
• Work weekdays and weekends as needed.
