We are looking for a personableindividual to provide library services to our customers : findingmaterials assisting users with library technology reserving librarymeeting spaces and registering for library programs and events.
This position involves extensive interaction with the public toprovide customers access to the full range of library services viainperson telephone online and other modes of delivery.
Hours are asfollows and requiresflexibility :
Mondays4 : 00pm9 : 00pm
Wednesdays4 : 00pm9 : 00pm
Fridays1 : 30pm7 : 00pm
1stSaturday of each month8 : 45am5 : 00pm
1st and4th Sunday of each month11 : 45am5 : 00pm
Theschedule is based on the needs of the library and could change ifand when needed. Starting pay is $14.11$17.63 based on skills andqualifications.
PositionSummary :
TheInformation Desk Assistant is responsible for assisting andfulfilling the patrons’ need for materials information orservices.
The Information Desk Assistant is also responsible forrepresenting the Library standards as this position mostlyinteracts with thepatrons.

Requirements &Skills for thePosition :
- Ability to use workplace technology includingemail internet intranet and Library databasesystems.
- Ability toread and interpret documents such as safety rules operating andmaintenance instructions and proceduremanuals.
- Ability towrite routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups ofcustomers or employees of organization.
- Ability to solve practical problems and dealwith a variety of concrete variables in situations where onlylimited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety ofinstructions furnished in written oral diagram or scheduleform.
- No certificateslicenses or registrations are required for thisjob.
Essential Duties andResponsibilities :
- Assess patrons’ needs effectivelyand efficiently either in person over the telephone or inwriting.
- Answerpatrons’ general reference inquires and directionalquestions about the Library and itsservices.
- Instructpatrons in the use of the Audiovisual (AV) classificationsystem.
- Search forlibrary materials by computer and onshelves.
- Assistpatrons at the online catalog and in the librarystacks.
- Reservematerials for patrons when the request is inperson over thetelephone or by email.
- Assist patrons with requests for outoflibraryservices through interlibrary loan.
- Gather and process ordering information forAV materials.
- Assistpatrons with photocopy machines and SimpleScanmachines.
- Organizethe feature film presentations asscheduled.
- MaintainAV information statistics calendar on a dailybasis.
- Assist withweeding the AV collection.
- Assist with special projects including : create bibliographies inventory various AV collections survey otherlibraries on various topics.
- Assist with AV displays within the departmentand throughout the Library.
- Maintain working knowledge of the SIRSIcomputer system the Library’s standalone databases andWorldCat.
- Treat allpatrons and employees fairly and with an open mind; maintain patronand employee confidentiality.
- Communicate problems that arise withsupervisor and designee; particularly situations where patrons arenot following Patron Code of Conduct.
- Communicate clearly either in person on thetelephone and inwriting; maintain the ability and patience tounderstand and be understood by allpatrons.
- Keepapprised of Library programs policies and procedures and buildinglayout to most effectively assist patrons.
- Maintain working knowledge of computersystems and technology needed in the position or as anemployee.
- Cope withthe stress of the job and get along withcoworkers.
- Attendmeetings and training as required orrequested.
- Otherduties asassigned.
Educationand / or experience :
- Oneyear certificate from college or technicalschool with related experience and / ortraining.
- CustomerService is preferred.
- A background in music or experience in theaudiovisual arepreferred .
