Job Summary:
Day Camp Program Coordinator
Provide daily leadership to our Day Camp Program. Supervise day camp staff, and oversee our campers and activities. Responsible for assisting in planning day camp special events and updating parents via our newsletter and social media. Support staff with camper behavior and discipline. Daily communication with Program Director to ensure the well running of this program.
Responsible for coordinating the day camp program including but not limited to: securing locations, reaching out to past counselors and new counselors for hire, secure training, theme and filed trip planning, update forms, weekly planning and purchasing of supplies.
- Maintain timely and effective communication with campers’ parents
- Evaluate camp program and provide input to Program Director
- Occasional lifting to 35 pounds, and ability to navigate multiple flights of stairs
- Interaction with program participants and assisting other program staff. Discusses and promotes all YMCA programs
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures
- Assist with the operation of all theme programs
- Assist in staff schedules
- Coordinate Camp field trips
- Supervise day camp counselors in all aspects of their job
- Supervise all day campers in the program
- Assist counselors as needed
- Report all policy concerns and violations to the Program Director
- Provide daily reports to the Program Director
- Maintain camper and staff discipline as necessary, in an appropriate manner with in Schuylkill YMCA guidelines to achieve camp’s objectives
- Complete all child abuse prevention training as required
- Support the YMCA’s mission and center operations as needed
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Director
- Supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:
- Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
- Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
Work hours:
This position is full time Summer only: Monday through Friday day shift, hours ranging between 7:00am to 6:00pm.
Off season (January through May; September) is part time: Hours can change and has flexibility. Most months’ hours are limited to 15 to 40 hours in a month.
Qualifications:
- Associates Degree.
- Summer Day Camp Experience
- Supervisory experience, preferably in a camp setting.
Certifications/Clearances
- AED/CPR
- Background Checks (FBI, PA State, PA Child Abuse)
- Driver’s License and transportation
