Role Overview:
The Plant Engineer ensures seamless day-to-day operations while proactively driving improvements in plant machinery and processes. This role focuses on future advancements, providing expert technical insights for engineering projects and capital investments. Additionally, the Plant Engineer collaborates with the central engineering team and, over time, becomes a subject matter expert in a specific technical domain, advising the client's network.
Reporting to the Plant Manager or Operations Director, the Plant Engineer oversees all technical facets of the manufacturing facility, including machinery operations, utility systems, reliability initiatives, process enhancements, skill development, environmental and workplace safety, and product quality. This role is instrumental in fostering partnerships with functional leaders to uphold enterprise standards in safety, quality, maintenance, continuous improvement, and operational excellence. The Plant Engineer also supervises technical and skilled-trade employees, maintaining a dotted line reporting structure to corporate engineering leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee engineering functions and ensure compliance with safety, EPA, OSHA, GMP, and DOT regulations.
Champion corporate EH&S programs to foster a culture of safety excellence.
Manage technical manufacturing processes to deliver high-quality products and exceptional customer service.
Develop and execute strategic engineering plans, including annual capital budgeting.
Lead capital projects from inception to completion, ensuring budget adherence and timely execution.
Train maintenance personnel in key technical areas, including mechanical, pneumatics, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
Provide leadership and performance management for employees, promoting teamwork and problem-solving.
Collaborate with site and corporate functions on process optimization, root cause analysis, maintenance, new product development, and capital projects.
Draft technical Scope of Supply documentation and collaborate with procurement on purchase negotiations.
Partner with the client's maintenance and reliability programs to enhance equipment reliability and utilization.
Handle major breakdown repair scenarios efficiently.
Drive continuous improvement efforts in areas like spoilage reduction, labor efficiency, safety, and cost optimization.
Align with corporate engineering on project integration and resource needs.
Ensure 24/7 support for internal and external communications to guarantee smooth operations and project delivery.
Conduct and attend effective engineering and operational meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Competencies:
Excellent project management skills.
Knowledge of EPA, GMP, OSHA, and DOT regulations.
Problem-solving abilities for complex technical challenges.
Strong leadership and management skills.
Proficiency in PLCs/HMIs, such as Allen Bradley Control Logix Series and Siemens.
Strong analytical, computer (MS Office, CAD), and communication skills.
Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical schematics.
Experience with preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 2-5 years of experience in a technical manufacturing environment.
Supervisory and leadership experience.
Hands-on experience with engineering and maintenance systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of electrical process control systems.
Experience with manufacturing improvement methodologies.
Proficiency in SPC and related quality improvement tools.
Background in metal can manufacturing.
Experience in high-speed manufacturing.
Familiarity with TPM.
