Position Overview:

Scope is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Vertical Leader to oversee our customer and product operations within the electric utility market. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in fiber rope properties, their applications in overhead stringing operations, distribution channels utilized by rope manufacturers, ability to deeply understand AI technology, marketing, sales and customer success functions within a software organization. This individual must also understand key personas within electric utilities and contractors whom are most concerned with line health and mitigating the risk of lines failing in the field.


The Vertical Leader will manage Scope's Customer Success team, contribute to product development, champion industry standards, and work closely with cross-functional teams to drive success in this vertical. The role requires strong leadership, financial acumen, and the ability to connect with both users and executive stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:


Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and manage Scope’s utility industry go-to-market functions, ensuring high levels of user satisfaction and operational excellence.
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Provide clear direction and support to ensure team alignment with company goals in multiple functions - product, marketing, sales and customer success. 
  • Read, learn, and seek to constantly improve yourself and the Scope team. 
  • Lead by example and continuously drive efforts towards satisfying the customer’s job-to-be-done and their desired outcomes.


Industry Expertise and Engagement:

  • Leverage deep knowledge of fiber rope properties and in overhead stringing operations within the electric utility sector. 
  • Build strong relationships with key personas in electric utilities and contractor organizations, focusing on those concerned with line health and risk mitigation.
  • Serve as the industry thought leader and advocate, championing the development of rope inspection standards.
  • Maintain an Always be Curious mindset in search of adjacent opportunities and applications for Scope.


Customer and User Experience:

  • Thoroughly learn Scope’s application and become proficient in its functionality and user benefits.
  • Conduct regular visits with users to understand their daily challenges and ensure our solutions meet their needs.
  • Build trust and rapport with users while effectively communicating value to local management and executive leadership of customer organizations.


Product Development Collaboration:

  • Collaborate closely with Scope’s development team to prioritize product enhancements and align features with market needs.
  • Act as the voice of the customer, advocating for improvements and innovations to meet the customer’s desired outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Scope’s machine learning and data science teams to further develop predictive analytics tools that enhance rope monitoring and failure risk prediction.
  • Work with data scientists to refine and leverage Scope’s data models, ensuring they deliver actionable insights tailored to the needs of electric utilities and contractors.


Marketing and Content Curation:

  • Partner with Scope’s marketing team to develop consistent, impactful content that promotes Scope’s value proposition in the electric utility market.
  • Ensure alignment of messaging with market trends, user needs, and Scope’s strategic objectives.
  • Financial and Strategic Oversight:
  • Manage the division’s profit and loss (P&L) and provide regular financial reporting.
  • Develop and execute strategies to drive revenue growth and improve operational efficiency.
  • Experience with commercial and pricing strategy.



Qualifications:


Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of fiber rope properties and real world applications where human visual inspection may be improved upon with Scope’s technology.
  • Strong familiarity with the roles and personas within electric utilities and contractors focused on line health and risk reduction.
  • Proven experience managing a team, with a track record of driving performance and engagement.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial reporting and managing a division's P&L.
  • Hands-on experience with customer success functions and a customer-centric approach.


Skills:

  • Exceptional written communication skills to engage executive and business stakeholders within the customer base. 
  • Significant experience with public speaking - small and large group settings
  • Customer facing - have extensive experience with a customer journey and cycle
  • Stakeholder identification - the ability to understand prospect and customer roles, their influence and role within a customer journey. 
  • Effective collaboration with customer champions, executive sponsors, internal product organizations, engineers and executive team reporting. 
  • Ability to provide OKR and key results for quarterly and annual OKRs and annual themes. 


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Additional Requirements:
  • Willingness to travel regularly to visit users, attend industry events, and engage with key stakeholders.
  • Commitment to mastering Scope’s application and deeply understanding user workflows.
  • Passion for driving innovation and setting industry standards.
