POSITION OBJECTIVE :
The job of Psychologist Intern is done for the purpose / s of assisting students who experience physical, mental, social or emotional difficulties; identifying difficulties and promoting improvement through evaluation, intervention and / or consultation; referring and / or coordinating with community service agencies; planning developing and evaluating programs; and establishing appropriate interventions within the school setting.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES : (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
- Assesses students' students' strengths and weaknesses within and in consideration of multiple environments for the purpose of determining student's present level of academic and functional performance and developing recommendations and / or placement.
- Consults with teachers, parents, other personnel and / or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services and / or making recommendations.
- Coordinates and communicates with community agencies including medical, judicial, social service and mental health services for the purpose of determining appropriate treatments, etc. to meet the needs of specific students.
- Facilitates meetings (e.g. IEP conferences, parent meetings, in-service, etc.) for the purpose of developing plans and / or providing information regarding students' functional goals.
- Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.
- Participates in various meetings (e.g. parent conferences, in-service training, site meetings, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and / or presenting information and / or meeting credential requirements.
- Prepares documentation (e.g. evaluations, observations, progress, contacts with parents, teachers and outside professionals, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support, developing recommendations and / or conveying information.
- Researches resources and methods (e.g. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining appropriate approach for addressing students' specific needs.
- Supervises interns, practicum students and others for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of school's curriculum.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform advanced math; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and / or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes : pertinent codes, policies, regulations and / or laws.

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include : operate standard office equipment; designing interventions.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and / or events; gather, collate, and / or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and / or groups; work with data of widely varied types and / or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include : maintain confidentiality; communicate with diverse groups; record keeping.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Positions in this class typically require : reaching, standing, walking, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work : Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and / or a negoligible amount of force frequently, and / or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and / or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
