The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering at South Dakota State University invites applicants for a 9-month, full-time, benefits-eligible, non tenure-track faculty position at the academic rank of Instructor in Mechanical Engineering with a tentative begin date of January 2024. This position is supervised by the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department. RESPONSIBILITIES:Duties may include, but are not limited to, the followingTeaching undergraduate level courses or laboratories in measurements and instrumentation, thermo-fluids lab, dynamic systems lab, machine design, controls, sensors, and mechatronics.Serve as an undergraduate academic advisor.Serve as a mentor/advisor to student design competition teams.Serve on department, college, and university committees as assigned. Participate in departmental service and operations activities (such as recruiting, fundraising, assessment, etc.) as assigned. Perform functions related to undergraduate program coordination, as assigned. Other duties assigned by the Department Head.Supervisory Responsibilities:Supervise instructional lab assistants and other technical/program support personnel as necessary. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Sponsorship is not available for this position; must be authorized to work in the United States.Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field by appointment date.Technical background in solid mechanics/machine design.Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering a school with an ABET-accredited program.Documented evidence of teaching excellence.Active use of, and/or contributions to the scholarship of teaching and learning. Expertise or experience in using and/or teaching engineering software, including any or all of the following: Solidworks, MATLab and Simulink, ANSYS, Labview.Experience with operating materials testing or dynamic systems laboratory equipment.Laboratory teaching experience.Expertise in acoustics or non-destructive testing.Practical industry experience.BENEFITS:South Dakota State University offers a wide range of benefits including medical, dental, and flexible benefits, retirement plans, compensation packages, paid holidays, and vacation leave.
