Overview
The Advocacy Liaison is a grant funded, contract position designed to strengthen advocacy collaboration between the ASPCA Government Relations team and Seattle Humane’s growing advocacy work by fostering and streamlining advocacy engagement among our shared efforts. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position will be focused on organizing and connecting other animal advocates in our area, meeting with legislators, writing letters to the editor, and working with the ASPCA Government Relations team to help coordinate activations, connect local volunteers, organize advocacy efforts, and promote social media campaigns. Together with the team, the Advocacy Liaison will strengthen the working relationship between the ASPCA’s efforts and Seattle Humane’s networks to amplify the impact of animal welfare policy work in Washington.
Role Description
The Advocacy Liaison will:

Act as a primary contact between the ASPCA Legislative Engagement team and Seattle Humane for advocacy-related efforts.

Attend existing advocacy meetings and access resources from the ASPCA to stay informed about ongoing campaigns and policy updates.

Share updates, resources, and action opportunities with Seattle Humane’s network to grow advocacy engagement.

Mobilize Seattle Humane networks and the Seattle community at large to participate in actions and volunteer recruitment campaigns.

Strengthen Seattle Humane’s advocacy policies and procedures ensuring we have a clear pathway to achieving our legislative goals.

Together with Seattle Humane leadership team, build the long-term advocacy strategy for the organization.
Key Responsibilities

Join ASPCA’s regular advocacy volunteer meetings (typically monthly).

Stay up to date on policy priorities and action opportunities through the ASPCA point person.

Share updates with Seattle Humane’s leadership team to ensure alignment with Seattle Humane’s positions and confirm the shelter’s support.

Distribute advocacy updates and action alerts using pre-prepared materials provided by the ASPCA.

Promote opportunities for members to engage in policy advocacy and volunteer efforts.

Build awareness of advocacy opportunities within Seattle Humane.

Recruit new policy volunteers from Seattle Humane's membership to expand the impact of advocacy efforts.

Provide brief updates on engagement activities to the ASPCA point person, and share feedback with the ASPCA (e.g., through a simple monthly survey).

Time Commitment
Schedule: Approximately 4 hours/week, with the flexibility to adjust days / times each week.
Duration of Assignment: Contract role with the expectation of a year contract, with flexibility to extend.
Work Environment
Location: Virtual with the option to come to Seattle Humane campus if desired. Occasional off-site meetings and limited travel to Olympia.
Salary : $65
