The Transit Security Officer is responsible for conducting security rides on board authorized King County Metro vehicles. This is accomplished by boarding coaches, conducting safety checks, speaking with operators about potential security issues as well as responding to any other medical or safety issues that may arise while conducting their duties. Officers will often have contact with customers who may potentially become uncooperative.

Job Description:
- Prepares and submits applicable reports when required.
- Conducts Safety Rides on authorized vehicles or at assigned locations
- Reports disruptive behavior on the system or property to local law enforcement.
- Performs any additional duties as assigned by the Director/Manager/Supervisor of Security and Fare Enforcement.
Minimum Qualifications at Entry:
- 21 years or older
- High School Diploma or GED
- Reliable means of communication
- Reliable means of transportation
- Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal English)
- Use of personal computer and standard office productivity software, including word processing and spreadsheet applications
- 2 years prior Security and/or other applicable experience preferred
Competencies (as demonstrated through experience, training, and/or testing):
- Must be able to meet and continue to meet any applicable WA state, county and municipal licensing requirements for Security Officers.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn security operations and procedures.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
- Ability to be an effective team member.
- Ability to maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances.
- Courteous telephone manner.
- Ability to adapt to changes in the external environment and organization.
- Ability to write routine correspondence, including logs and reports.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to provide high quality customer service.
- Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at various social levels and across diverse cultures.

- Maintaining composure in dealing with authorities, executives, clients, staff and the public, occasionally under conditions of urgency and in pressure situations.

- Must undergo and meet company standards for background and reference checks, controlled substance testing, and behavioral selection survey, in addition to any mandatory licensing requirements.
