Attorney, Director (Banking Legal Team)

The Attorney / Director (“Attorney”) will be responsible for supporting the Senior Director of the Bank Legal Team by working with numerous SEI business teams and other members of SEI’s Legal, Compliance and Corporate Development Department to support the strategy, development and operation of existing and new services across SEI platforms. The Attorney’s focus will be on custody and trust operations that support the services being offered on SEI platforms to SEI’s clients.

Responsibilities will include the following: counseling numerous SEI business teams on the various regulatory obligations and risks associated with operational requirements impacting SEI’s bank-related platform services, including custody and trust services, taking into consideration the regulatory bodies having jurisdiction over the relevant SEI entities and operations being performed; escalating issues outside approved policies and procedures; working closely with other attorneys and compliance personnel in the Legal, Compliance and Corporate Development Department to ensure that new services and operations are implemented in accordance with applicable compliance programs and comply with applicable law and regulations; working closely with business unit solutions teams and operations teams to draft and negotiate contracts and agreements, and to counsel and support their efforts while also ensuring such parties’ adherence to applicable regulations, standards and procedures; and proactively managing and advising on various legal matters, including with outside counsel.

The Attorney will be a member of the Legal, Compliance and Corporate Development Department and will report to the attorney managing the Banking Legal Team.

Work with more senior staff when dealing with complex issues, larger clients, accounts, projects, analyses, or internal relationships.

Resolve simple issues independently while understanding what to escalate up the chain.
Oversee junior staff from time to time while not having responsibility for final decision making on issues needing resolution.
Create sound and reliable work product that can be shared with clients directly.
Collaborate well with market unit teams, while ensuring that decision making stays within the appropriate levels of risk appetites.
Demonstrate experienced understanding of business line and a basic understanding of the overall company.
Have an experienced understanding of specialized discipline/Have a fundamental understanding of specialized discipline.
Be a reliable transmitter of information, i.e., a good understanding of what issues need to be reported “up the chain” as opposed to those that you should be able to resolve on your own.
Demonstrate a basic understanding of business and operating environment.

What you’ll do:The Attorney’s primary responsibilities will be:
Keep business units and management apprised of new legislation and regulations impacting the platform services offered to clients and the contracts related thereto, including regulations of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Federal Reserve, the FDIC and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission;
Educating internal clients with respect to the positions and issues that arise during implementation of new service and/or ongoing operations;
Manage and advise on various legal issues in the ordinary course, including with outside counsel
Coordinate with operations and various business unit solutions teams to provide legal and compliance guidance with respect to the development of new products and services;
Maintain an ethical and independent counsel for SEI in accordance with the standards of conduct applicable to the legal profession;
Support the management of long-term projects, engaging colleagues and ensuring completion;
Participating in various activities related to regulatory compliance, and third-party risk management;
Assisting with policy and procedure drafting and review; and
Perform other assignments as the Senior Director/Attorney may direct.

What you bring to the table:
To be considered candidates must demonstrate the following to the satisfaction of SEI:
Law degree from accredited U.S. law school
Current bar admission
Knowledge of federal laws impacting financial service companies required (bank laws and regulations, including trust regulations, preferred) and experience in dealing with federal regulators. Experience with the OCC preferred.
Experience in regulatory compliance in an operations, custody, trust or similarly regulated area; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to balance business partnership with the need to exercise independent judgment and to raise potentially sensitive or contentious issues in a timely and constructive manner
Comfort with a dynamic, often-changing environment
Detail oriented, flexible and a collaborative team player
A high degree of multi-tasking capability
