Description
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative research to assess needs, trends, and issues affecting the African American community.
- Analyze data from various sources, including surveys, demographic studies, and existing databases, to generate actionable insights.
- This role requires active presence in program spaces during programming and events, ensuring close alignment across the agency and firsthand involvement in the delivery of services.
- Create regular and one-off reports, designing them to meet contractual requirements and to detail the full journey of a participant. vices and activities.
- Provide technical support and training to agency staff and program participants.
- Prepare detailed reports, briefs, and presentations to communicate findings to internal stakeholders and community partners.
- Collaborate with program teams to identify research needs and develop evaluation frameworks for ongoing programs and initiatives.
- Monitor and evaluate data outcomes to measure the effectiveness of programs and strategies, making recommendations for improvements.
- Stay informed about best practices in data research and analysis, including emerging methodologies and tools that can enhance our work.
- Support grant writing and reporting by providing data and analysis that demonstrate program impact and community needs.
- Engage with community members to gather qualitative data through interviews, focus groups, and community forums.
- Ensure that all research practices uphold ethical standards and are culturally sensitive to the community we serve.
- Develop and maintain a research database to ensure that data is organized, accessible, and readily available for analysis.
- Present data analysis to SEI staff, Board of Directors, community partners and corporate, foundation and public sector audiences.
- Communicate data in an accessible user-friendly manner for multiple audiences.
- Interpret and analyze data and develop persuasive stories for funders and the community.
- Organize and publish findings for various audiences, including but not limited to; community members, funders, government officials, partner organizations and media.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Public Policy, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- 3 years of experience in research, data analysis, or a related field, preferably in a nonprofit or community-focused context.
- 3 or more years of experience in survey design, focus group research, and other methods of information gathering; logic model development; qualitative and quantitative analysis, statistical concepts.
- Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R, Python, Excel and CaseWorthy) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Strong understanding of research methodologies and statistical analysis techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex data insights in a clear and engaging manner.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse team environment.
- Commitment to social justice and an understanding of the challenges faced by the African American community.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of statistical and geospatial software (i.e. SPSS and GIS) a plus experience building and/or customizing data collection and evaluation tools, rubrics and assessments.
- Experience with program management information systems and data management.
- Ability to develop and provide in-person and online presentations including training on evaluation systems and results of program evaluation to multiple stakeholders including partners, funders, and community members.
- An experience-based understanding of community and youth development program evaluation, measurement of outcomes in direct and indirect support of academic achievement in low-income communities and in out of school settings.
- Strong writing and storytelling skills.
- Must possess strong customer service skills; ability to work and reason independently, as well as within a team.
- Experience working with a diverse group of agencies coordinating services and strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Lived experience with low income and/or African American communities.
