The Reliability and Security Advisor is responsible for providing leadership, project management, and technical expertise to solve regional security and reliability challenges. The Reliability and Security Advisor must have a solid grasp of electrical utility operations, critical infrastructure protection, security concepts, and a passion for answering questions and working with others on identifying solutions to complex problems. This role will collaborate with a team of security and reliability experts focused on reducing risks to the bulk power system through outreach, education, training, and external communications.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide expertise on critical infrastructure operations, reliability and protection.
  • Provide security leadership, insight, and guidance to external stakeholders through direct, written, and verbal communications.
  • Identify, review, and assess tools, programs, and processes designed to protect critical infrastructure.
  • Develop, enhance, and share solutions for security and reliability challenges through training, outreach, and assistance.
  • Lead, plan, and coordinate SERC Assistance and Outreach engagements that help reduce risk to the Bulk Power system.
  • Prepare and present technical topics to large and small groups.
  • Prepare and publish technical documents for training and educational purposes through SERC University and Newsletters.
  • Support, develop, and maintain program documents and tools.
  • Manage multiple simultaneous projects and deliverables in a team environment.
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and participate in SERC, NERC, FERC and other committees, work groups, and task forces.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities, as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Five years of experience in the electric utility industry with Bulk Electric System experience preferred (i.e., SCADA security, EMS operation or administration, ESP network administration, etc.).
  • Seven years of experience managing, securing, operating, or auditing critical systems with electric power systems and industrial control systems preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in technical, security, or an engineering related field.
  • Working knowledge of OT or IT security devices and concepts with detailed knowledge of NERC Reliability or similar standards (e.g., ISO, NIST, etc.).
  • Effective communication skills in face-to-face, remote, written, and verbal interactions.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate logical analytical thinking leading to sensible conclusions from data gathering.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Products (i.e., Office, SharePoint, Project, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing technical policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Industry recognized security certification a plus.

SALARY/BENEFITS:

The salary range for this position is DOE. We offer a generous PTO package; paid holidays; medical, dental, vision, life, short-term and long-term disability insurance, and a 401(k) plan with an organization contribution of up to 14%.
