Job Description
Sewickley Academy is seeking to hire a Director of Athletics. This role is responsible for exercising leadership in school-wide athletic programs including innovation, program improvement, communication, and administrative procedures. The expected start date for this position is July 1, 2024, or possibly sooner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and oversee a comprehensive sports program at the school.
- Provide visionary leadership, strategic planning, and development for the athletics program.
- Work with coaches, parents, and student athletes to ensure program objectives mirror the school’s mission, values and culture, and strive to build a culture of enthusiastic support among all members.
- Develop guidelines and procedures for the operation of the athletic programs in keeping with compliance requirements.
- Develop and maintain good public relations with parents, alumni, officials, and news media.
- Work with the Chief Financial & Operations Officer to plan an effective annual athletics budget.
- Encourage and maintain proper student and community sportsmanship at all athletic contests.
- Plan, organize, and supervise school athletic events.
- Support and provide guidance for all athletic fundraising.
- Strategically promote athletic program awareness throughout all levels of school to increase participation.
- Hire and evaluate coaching staff for various sports programs.
- Exhibit support and leadership by attending athletic events.
- Oversee all management issues related to successful operations to include but not be limited to recordkeeping; athletic schedules; emergency services at games, where necessary; security, control, and supervision when other schools use athletic facilities; cleanliness and good order of all athletic facilities and equipment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with master’s preferred.
- A minimum of five years athletic administration experience, preferably at an independent school.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills.
- Ability to innovate and align current programming with best practices in athletics and physical fitness.
