Job Summary
A Medical Laboratory Technologist is required to work in a clinical laboratory setting, performing various tests and analyses on patient specimens. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of laboratory procedures and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate records of test results and specimen handling procedures.
- Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures and review test results for accuracy.
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines, including CLIA, HIPAA, and OSHA regulations.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure efficient lab operations and maintain quality control standards.
- Document all quality control activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance performed.
- Participate in training sessions and educational meetings to stay up-to-date on new procedures and technologies.
- Adhere to established policies and procedures, including reporting STATS or Critical results to clients.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring the general appearance of the department is maintained.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field (Chemistry or Biology); Associate's degree with relevant experience also considered.
- Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in high complexity testing; 2 years preferred.
- Ability to establish work priorities, handle multiple procedures simultaneously, and interact with other departments.
- Contact with clients may be required; good customer service skills essential.
- Protect patient confidentiality at all times.
Preferred Qualifications:
- New York State license preferred or eligible.
- ASCP certification preferred.
- Bacteriology experience.
