GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The DFSS Workforce Program Coordinator will work with Program Director to monitor, support, and implement Workforce Development Programs funded by City of Chicago DFSS to ensure program success of youth ages 14-24. The Youth Coordinators will facilitate, direct, and supervise all programmatic activities with youth, staff and program partners.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Work closely with Program Director to Implement performance measurement tools with youth participants and ensure completion.
  • Plan and facilitate weekly job readiness workshops, financial literacy workshops, and work readiness skills assessments, ensuring participants complete required assignments 
  • Build strong, positive relationships with youth participants and facilitate team building between participants.
  • Engage youth in wrap-around services within their agency and work with external partners to provide additional support services to youth who are identified as at-risk.
  • Monitor youth participants’ placements at service-learning sites and specialized weekly discussions, and training to ensure completion.
  • Maintain communication and a working relationship with the community partners or specialized training providers.
  • Ensure data is entered into Cityspan and other DFSS-designated platforms.
  • Assist staff and youth with setting up My Chi, My Future Accounts. 
  • Aid with recruitment, onboarding and retention of youth participants for program duration
  • Assist staff and youth with capstone projects.
  • Assist with developing youth panels and advisory groups.
  • Act as the liaison to participants, SGA, and DFSS personnel and build strong, positive relationships with staff, youth participants, parents, and work site employers.
  • Attend mandatory trainings and meetings per request of DFSS; including but not limited to training for Cityspan, Job Readiness curriculum, financial literacy curriculum, and trauma workshops and DFSS-designated technology platform.
  • Engages in facilitation of programs, workshops, and events geared toward youth development and education enhancement delivered in person as appropriate.
  • Ensures that staff and youth arrive at their respective work sites at their scheduled time
  • Assists in resolving work and peer conflicts and ensuring that youth have a successful experience.
  • Facilitate recruitment, intake and enrollment activities.
  • Acts in a professional manner at all times and maintains appropriate boundaries with youth.
  • Demonstrates accountability for results and keeps commitments to others
  • Supports staff with transitioning youth to employment and/or education upon program completion.
  • Accepts feedback and ideas from team and director and is constructive when giving feedback and ideas to others.
  • Responds in a timely manner to all written correspondence, email and phone calls.
  • Meet program youth and staff timesheet submission, reporting and activity deadlines
  • Attends regular supervision, team meetings and other professional workshops to enhance job skills.
  • Administer SGA and DFSS survey at the end of the program to assess participant experience.
  • Data entry includes but is not limited to youth enrollment and daily youth attendance and activities which is required weekly. components are required in the data system: Work Plan, DFSS Youth Intake Forms completed in hard copy DFSS Youth Enrollment Portal, activity entry and attendance, contractual certification information, outputs, and outcomes.
  • Maintain participant files, Bus Card logs, Timesheets and all required DFSS documentation. 
  • Implements other services requested by SGA or funder.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Education:

  • Associates’ degree in human services, Education, Psychology, Social Work or a related field in a plus

Experience:

  • Experience working with youth of diverse backgrounds required. 
  • One to three years of related experiences or a combination of training, education, and experience is preferred.   
  • Knowledge of youth development is a plus 


Other:

  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required. Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals and community groups. 
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude working in a high intensity environment.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of service providers, community events, or the organization.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in executing tasks.
  • Must demonstrate ability to handle emergency and crisis situations.
  • Must be able to take initiative. 
  • Must have access to a computer. 

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Competent in Microsoft Office tools and inputting services in an online database.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work on a computer screen for a long period of time
  • Must be able to deliver supplies to youth, if needed.
