Co-Curricular Assignment Description
VOLUNTEER HOURS: Hours vary based on schedule developed by volunteer; may include evening hours.. Average weekly position will be 15 hours.
SUMMARY: Responsible for providing leadership support to the Middle School Co-ed Soccer program at Shawano Community Middle School. Provides the necessary practice, support, advice, and guidance for the MS Co-ed Soccer team to be successful against opposing teams in the MS Co-ed Soccer season. Conducts practices, motivates students, and instructs student athletes in game strategies and techniques. Required to educate students through participation in MS Co-ed Soccer, which is designed to enhance academic achievement. Shall strive to set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct. Promote the entire co-curricular program of the District and direct the MS Co-ed Soccer program in harmony with the educational mission and values of the District.
PRIMARY DUTIES & ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support a culture within the MS Co-ed Soccer program of commitment, dedication, discipline, strong work ethic, good sportsmanship, and team pride.
- Develop team strategy, determine position assignments, and implement program expectations and rules.
- Show appropriate respect and sportsmanship toward officials, parents, opposing coaches, visiting teams, fans, media, students, teachers and support staff.
- Promote academic excellence and strict adherence to the co-curricular code.
- Implement practice plans that promote fundamental skill development and teach team strategy.
- Set a positive example for the students and inspire and assist them to improve as a student-athlete.
- Treat each student with the utmost respect and consider his or her welfare at all times.
- Required punctual attendance at every practice, game and team activity.
- Encourage strength and conditioning participation for student athletes.
- Manage an equipment inventory, and issuing and collecting equipment, uniforms, and supplies to athletes.
- Master the rules and regulations of the sport of Soccer and instruct and educate team members of the rules.
- Encourage students to participate in more than one sport.
- Follow all policies and procedures in the SSD Coaches’ Handbook.
- Perform any other duties related to your position as needed or directed by the MS Co-ed Soccer Head Coach, building principal or Middle School Activities Director.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Complete and pass a background check as conducted by the District
- Provide verification of a physical examination and a negative TB test result prior to beginning employment with the District, as required by state statute.
- Drug testing and additional training may be required.
- Knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport of Soccer.
- Communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to use independent judgment.
- Ability to express drills and strategies clearly and concisely, in such a way as to reach students.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, other District employees and volunteers, opposing teams, and the public.
