Job Summary:
Assist Operator in operation and maintenance of presses while continually learning machine operations and printing technique.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Read and understand work order verifying correct substrate, bind type, ink color, and run lengths.
- Order substrate while considering the needs of the oncoming shift.
- Set up stacker and bundler to send adequate and well identified bundles to bindery.
- Understand substrate – weights, PPI, size, grain direction, coating, marking and storage
- Load correct substrate into the machine while tracking slab-off, waste consumption and return weights.
- Learn all phases of the press operation
- Ensure bundles conform to bindery needs including proper identification.
- Be sure all waste is disposed of properly including printed and blank substrate.
- See that all skids are safely stacked and wrapped before leaving press area.
- Learn to interpret the information on the work order and its contents.
- Assist Operator as needed.
- Run press effectively in temporary absence of Operator.
- Obtain general understanding of printing process, printing machines, and press crew responsibilities.
- Assist maintenance personnel with machine repair.
- Maintain production, quality standards, and report as determined by company.
- Complies with all safety regulations and work rules.
- Exercise initiative, ask questions and look for ways of improving productivity.
- Keep area safe and clean.
- Adequately communicate with oncoming shift
- Perform end of shift duties leaving area ready for oncoming shift.
- Fill press supplies at end of shift.
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications:
- High school Diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.
- 2 years of experience in manufacturing, preferably in printing manufacturing
- Maintain a working pace equal to the output of machines.
- Follow explicit orders and job specifications.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as work orders, workplace and safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional variables.
- Basic math skills, add subtract, and ability to use a measuring device.
- Basic problem-solving skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and team-player, strong communication and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 70 pounds and/or move 100 plus pounds.
- Constantly be able to work in the work activities
- Occasionally be able to do the listed activities
Base Schedule is Monday to Friday and may include Saturday overtime
- 1st shift: 7 AM-3 PM
- 2nd shift: 3 PM-11 PM
- 3rd shift: 11 PM-7 AM
- Overtime pays time and a half after 40 hours per week
- Shift premiums: 2nd shift-5% and 3rd shift-7%
