Position Overview:
The Director of Business Development at ShipDudes will play a pivotal role in driving revenue growth, building strategic partnerships, and expanding market presence. This individual will lead efforts to identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities, while also managing key client relationships to foster long-term partnerships. The ideal candidate is both a strategic thinker and a hands-on leader, comfortable driving business expansion while closely collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pipeline Development & Sales Execution
- Identify and qualify new business opportunities that align with ShipDudes' growth goals.
- Build and manage a robust sales pipeline, nurturing potential clients through the sales funnel.
- Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to convert high-quality leads into long-term customers.
- Partnership & Relationship Management
- Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, industry partners, and potential clients.
- Negotiate and structure partnership agreements to drive revenue and expand service offerings.
- Market Research & Competitive Analysis
- Conduct research on market trends, customer needs, and competitor strategies to inform business decisions.
- Explore and assess new verticals, geographies, and industries for potential expansion.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with internal teams such as sales, marketing, and operations to align business development efforts with overall company objectives.
- Provide actionable insights to product and operations teams to refine service offerings.
- Revenue Growth & Target Achievement
- Drive initiatives to achieve revenue growth targets and other key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Regularly track and report on sales and business development KPIs, adjusting strategies as necessary.
- Retailion & Expansion Revenue
- Collaborate with account managers to identify upselling and cross-selling opportunities for existing clients.
- Partner with external platforms and agencies (eCommerce, packaging, fulfillment) to provide value-added services that enhance customer retention.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Experience: 8 years of experience in sales, business development, or account management roles.
- Leadership: 5 years of leadership experience, managing high-performing sales and/or customer success teams.
- Industry Knowledge: Proven experience in eCommerce, logistics, or 3PL, with a deep understanding of client needs and pain points related to shipping and fulfillment.
- Sales Acumen: Strong track record of negotiating and closing mid-to-enterprise-level deals, with a focus on driving revenue growth.
- Cross-Functional Skills: Ability to work closely with operations, marketing, and sales teams to ensure smooth service delivery.
- Hands-On Approach: Comfortable making strategic decisions and also getting directly involved in closing deals and managing client relationships.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Sales & New Business Growth (40%)
- Review and optimize the sales pipeline to identify high-value opportunities.
- Provide coaching and guidance to the sales team on deal-closing strategies.
- Actively participate in high-value sales conversations and close key accounts.
- Manage pricing proposals and contract negotiations for prospective clients.
Customer Success & Retention (40%)
- Monitor customer health scores and identify potential churn risks.
- Meet with top customers to strengthen relationships and ensure satisfaction.
- Work with the customer success team to support seamless onboarding and continuous client support.
- Implement upsell strategies to grow revenue from existing accounts.
Leadership & Strategy (20%)
- Lead weekly check-ins with the sales and customer success teams to ensure alignment.
- Collaborate with operations teams to improve customer experiences and retention.
- Analyze retention and sales data to refine strategies and improve outcomes.
What Success Looks Like:
Within 3-6 months, the Director of Business Development should:
- Have a strong understanding of ShipDudes' sales process and customer lifecycle.
- Establish and strengthen key client relationships to minimize churn.
- Improve sales team performance, driving faster deal closures.
- Implement structured renewal and retention processes.
By 12 months, this person should:
- Achieve consistent new business and retention targets.
- Build a strong, predictable sales pipeline.
- Improve customer satisfaction and reduce churn to below 10%.
- Scale the sales and customer success teams as needed.
