Do you love creating opportunities for open-ended play, allowing both kids and adults to use divergent thinking and build problem solving skills? Bothell Family Cooperative Preschool is looking to add a Part-Time Faculty like you to our team for our Toddler and/or 2/3 Classes!
The person hired for this position serves in a combined role and is responsible for providing instruction in Parenting Education, both in the classroom laboratory and in a lecture format, and teaching classes for children. The instructor hired would teach some or all of the following classes:
- 2 - 3 year old class - Thursdays and Fridays from 9:30am-11:15am

Toddler Class (1-2 year olds) - Thursdays from 12:00 pm- 1:45pm
BFCP follows the Shoreline Community College calendar for the Parent Education Program as well as the Northshore School District calendar, excluding professional development days. The calendar will be set in August and voted on by the Board.

Bothell Family Cooperative Preschool is dedicated to nurturing the development of all families. We believe that children and their caregivers flourish in a supportive and diverse community. We respect the capabilities of each unique individual. With involved members at every level, our program provides a broad range of hands-on learning opportunities for children and their caregivers.
Faculty Responsibilities:
- Develop parenting education curriculum that is consistent with the SCC approved Master Course Outline for the courses
- Plan/facilitate parenting education discussions during class time as well as at quarterly sessions
- Plan/implement the program for parents and children, in accordance with the current agreement between SCC and the cooperative preschool, including all policies, guidelines, purposes and philosophies
- Prepare a written syllabus for each class each quarter
- Keep current in the fields of parenting and early childhood education
- Attend professional growth and training sessions
- Works as a team with the Director, faculty, and staff of Bothell Family Cooperative Preschool at the direction of the Board of Directors
- Independently creates classes that support the learning and goals of the preschool environment
- Plans and prepares children's curriculum and adult's parent education curriculum
- Sets up a developmentally appropriate preschool environment and maintains a clean classroom between classes
- Supports a healthy community through participation in class meetings, Board meetings, work parties, outreach events, and other preschool events
- In addition, the instructor is responsible for all requirements set forth in the Shoreline Community College Part-Time Faculty for Parent Education application
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Early Childhood Education or a related field (e.g., special education, education, human development, family studies, language development, or psychology) or P-3 Early Childhood endorsement or comparable experience and training
- Preferred - Master's degree in Early Childhood Education OR a related field, current Washington State teaching certificate and cooperative preschool experience preferred
- Demonstrated classroom experience with early childhood education theories and practices
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of Parent Education
- Experience with or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework online
- Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
- Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
- Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities
- Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently
- Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is usually performed in an active early childhood setting. It requires standing, both indoors and outdoors, and on field trips. Knowledge and use of computers for class lists, email correspondence, and other information is important.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:
This is a part-time, non-tenured, quarter-to-quarter assignment. Salary is dependent upon the number of contact hours for this assignment as provided in the agreement with the Shoreline Community College Federation of Teachers. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
