Job Brief:


The Social Media and Events Coordinator position will prepare and develop social media and outreach content to support and enhance the organizations operations while also being responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing community events and projects. This position will facilitate the organization’s initiatives that foster the connection with and between our residents, our schools, business partners, and community organizations.


Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Outreach and Special Events Coordinator is responsible for implementing a comprehensive approach to public engagement and communications along with coordinating special events and community projects. The position is responsible for website management, social media engagement, program marketing, event promotion, and maintaining up-to-date organization communication materials. The event / media specialist will develop and implement planning strategies for the day-to-day management of all event logistics, timelines, vendors and volunteers while activating organic and paid digital marketing campaigns, including search, display, and social advertising strategies across both B2B and B2C businesses.


Media concentration will focus on expanding outreach to new audiences in the Curtis Park Neighborhood. This position will develop and implement media strategies and digital content (e.g., website, press releases, and social media) manage end-to-end digital projects, write content for our community newspaper the Viewpoint, serve as the lead for our digital/print media-related marketing efforts.


Essential events functions will embrace coordinating and facilitating special events for the community.– orchestrating and delivering logistics that are the cornerstone of our organization. The individual who represents SCNA/Sierra 2 in this role is a highly organized, reliable and friendly individual who can manage multiple tasks and be able to function in an environment characterized by growth and transition.



With a passion for community and helping others, the individual in this position will present a professional approach, be able to manage multiple projects and collaborate among many internal and external team members.

The Outreach/ Event Coordinator will possess:

  • Knowledge of event planning and principles.
  • Skill set of marketing strategies and advertisements in the social media or digital world of communications.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, innovative ideas along with creative problem-solving skills
  • Know how to engage with community groups, committees and stakeholders to organize events, outreach and coordinate volunteers needed for all activities
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple and simultaneous projects.
  • Desire to provide exceptional customer service to those contacted in the course of work—including other employees, visitors and tenants


Outreach and Marketing:

         

•    Skilled in preparing social or digital media communications through audio or visual presentations.

•       Ability to create organizational materials for all programming and marketing needs

•       Proficient in writing content for websites, eblasts, articles and reports.

•    Skilled in computer operations related to software applications and operations, website maintenance and functions.

•    Bring excellent interpersonal skills along with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals and the media targets both verbally and through written communications.


Event planning and programming:

  • Create and flawlessly execute event planning logistics for all events and meetings
  • Secure vendors, equipment and talent as needed
  • Manage ticket sales, structure and maintain attendance records along with vendors,talent, artists, catering/food needs.
  • Secure permits, photo and volunteer release forms and contracts.
  • Maintain flawless records through online platforms
  • Assist with third party partners with community events.

 

Administrative:

  • Coordinate sponsor and collaborative opportunities that are secured
  • Prepare, coordinate, and send routine correspondence and mass mailings
  • Coordinating set up activities with facility lead to assure proper staffing
  • Inventory and event supplies
  • Generate and format reports and other documents using a full range of computer software skills including spreadsheets, word processing, desktop publishing, database management, presentation software, etc.
  • Answer telephone calls and make outgoing calls
  • Take and deliver messages
  • Identify, enforce, and adhere to health, safety, and other regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality, especially related to sensitive organizational, customer, and other generally private information.

·       Assist with facility bookings, booking payments, and booking calendar as needed.

·       Other duties as assigned


Qualifications Required

·       2 years of experience with event planning required preferably working with the general public.

·       2 years of experience with social media, outreach and/or marketing efforts.


·       Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in fields related to event planning, digital and video communications, hospitality/community development or marketing and public relations a plus.


·       Current and valid California Driver’s license

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

A candidate for this position should have experience in:


·       Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required

·       Knowledge and/or experience with Hootsuite, Canva, WordPress along with the full range of social media platforms

·       Strong ability to manage multiple projects at once

·       Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

·       Exceptional organizational skills

·       Well-developed time management skills


Preferred Experience: in the arts, theatre, and non-profit arenas


Working Conditions:

·       Employee is required to stand, walk, talk, listen, climb, balance, stoop, kneel & sit up to ½ the time.

·       Operate equipment including office machines, computers, audio visual equipment, etc.


Work Location:

·       On-site - @ Sierra 2 Center, 2791 24th Street, Sacramento, CA 95818

·       Occasional site work @ Curtis Park, 3349 W Curtis Dr, Sacramento, CA 95818


Salary and schedule

This position is 40 hours/week, Monday through Friday, occasional evenings and weekends.
