Position Description
The Consumer Lending Specialist will be responsible for processing, analyzing, and closing of consumer loan transactions in a timely manner while maintaining the highest level of service to both their internal members and external members.
This position will be responsible for the movement of all consumer loan applications through the origination process to the closing process.
Gathering all documentation necessary to complete the loan packages while adhering to all state / federal regulations, credit union policies and guidelines, and ensuring accuracy of every loan application.
This position will need to be able to maintain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of all consumer loan products and a basic knowledge of both mortgage and deposit product to assist members in growing their relationship with Signal Financial throughout all stages of their financial lives.
The Consumer Lending specialist must be able to carry out the essential duties of the position in such a manner that consistently reflects the core values of Signal Financial to positively impact every member, every time.
Position Responsibilities :
- Provide superior member service in a call center environment by effectively analyzing the member's current and future situation, by asking the open-ended questions and making recommendations to enhance the member's financial position.
- Assist the member in the loan application process by determining eligibility and guiding applicants to open membership accounts when appropriate.
- Maintain an open dialogue and relationship with the branch network to assign new member accounts to the appropriate branch for follow up and to strengthen the relationship with the member.
- Interview and identify loan products that best fit member's needs through a consultative need based selling process. Cross selling of other potential loan products from opportunities presented through the interview and the credit review process and referring members for non-lending products as needed.
- Ability to interpret and educate to lending regulations / policies and procedures and educate members about their loan product options.
- Process consumer loans from the loan origination process through to the final approval, closing, and funding process
- In a timely and accurate manor follow up with members to collect, verify, and analyze documentation received to ensure all underwriters' conditions are met and adherence to SFFCU guidelines and requirements is followed.
- Underwrite loan applications based on loan authority and make recommendations on loans that fall outside that authority level.
- Complete loan closings in a timely manner based on the members' preferred delivery channel (via docusign or branch)
- Prepare and relay adverse actions with the appropriate documentation as needed.
- Maintain a deep knowledge and understanding of current Federal / State lending regulations. Be able to interpret and apply lending regulations and internal lending guidelines when reviewing and making decisions or recommendations on loan applications.
- Document all member interactions, appropriate decision comments and exceptions in applicable systems to ensure accuracy, quality control, and to make sure we are providing the member with the best experience possible.
- Responsible for scorecard goals including : loan queues, booking efficiency, loan delinquency, turn times, loan package quality, and overall loan portfolio performance.
- Advocate for change and identify improvements that can be made to the underwriting and / or production procedures. Recommend solutions that could increase efficiency and member experience.
- Maintain an active role in participate team meetings and department activities.
- Engage as member of a cohesive team, demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability interact positively with other team members.
- Display leadership through personal actions and day-to-day practices that support SFFCU's core values.
Position Requirements
- A basic working knowledge of underwriting and the 5 C's of credit (credit, capacity, capital, character and collateral)
- Working knowledge of the fundamental lending laws, concepts, and procedures
- Strong loan math calculation skills including the use of automated spreadsheet development and basic analytics
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work as required
- 2-3 years minimum Financial Institution experience
- At least 1 year consumer lending experience
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and the ability to make decisions with attention to detail
- Strong presentation, telephone, oral and written communication skills
- Strong proficiency in personal computer skills including the following : Word, Excel, Outlook, internet.
- Demonstrates the ability to maintain a professional image both through physical and interpersonal skills
- Experience with Meridian Link is encouraged, but not required.
