SLR Consulting is looking for an intern this summer to work with us on river restoration and flood mitigation projects in New York. The position will be a mix of field work in the Catskills and surrounding counties and desk work in our New Paltz office. It is a paid, full-time position (40 hours per week). Start and end dates are flexible, approximately May through August.

Working with professional staff and mentors, the intern will perform assignments designed to utilize and develop their professional skills and knowledge that are essential in their chosen field. The intern will assist project teams in the coordination of projects from conception through final plan preparation, fieldwork, analysis, design-related tasks, and preparation of technical reports. The intern will work on multiple, unique assignments simultaneously and will need to possess strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Required Qualifications
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with field work, such as measuring and recording observations of streams
- Field days spent outdoors in the Catskill mountains or other watersheds, hiking in and along streams, gathering data with GPS
- Office work, including data input, GIS mapping, report writing, etc.
- Applying knowledge and learning about stream features, local geology, watersheds, hydrology, etc.
- Interest in gaining experience working at a civil engineering firm
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively interface with all levels of personnel and management
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Teamwork
- Ability to identify and solve problems
- Self-motivated and willingness to learn
