Primary Objective & Scope of Position:
The Merchandise Analysis Lead is responsible for driving data-driven decision-making to support merchandising strategy at Slumberland. This role will lead merchandise analysis, provide product performance insights, and develop category strategies to enhance Slumberland's competitive position. The ideal candidate is a data-savvy, strategic thinker who bridges analytics and merchandising execution to influence key business decisions.
Essential Functions and Accountabilities:
Lead Merchandise Analysis and Strategy
- Develop and implement merchandise analytics frameworks to optimize product assortment, pricing, and promotions.
- Analyze large datasets to identify sales trends, inventory patterns, and market opportunities.
- Provide actionable insights to improve sell-through, margin performance, and inventory efficiency.
- Combine internal data with external benchmarks to identify competitive gaps and opportunities.
- Partner with category managers and merchants to identify opportunities and risks within product categories.
Develop Insights to Inform the Assortment & Merchandising Plans
- Partner with merchants to align sourcing, inventory planning, and pricing strategies with financial goals.
- Collaborate with suppliers to optimize cost structures, product availability, and supply chain efficiency.
- Support private label product development through data insights on customer preferences and market trends.
Drive Decision-Making & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Influence merchandising decisions related to pricing, promotions, store layouts, and assortment planning.
- Build strong partnerships with suppliers, merchants, planners, and store operations to optimize business outcomes.
- Work closely with customer data teams to integrate insights on customer behavior and preferences into merchandising decisions.
- Leverage advanced analytics tools to measure category and product-level success, recommending adjustments as needed.
Be a Category Expert & Innovator
- Stay ahead of industry trends and customer behavior to drive product innovation and differentiation.
- Identify opportunities for new products and assortment expansion based on demand shifts and competitor activity.
- Use a mix of quantitative and qualitative data to enhance the customer shopping experience.
- Drive category management and supplier negotiations based on market insights and data trends.
Salary: $70,000-90,000 annually
Knowledge & Education Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferred), Business, Analytics, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- 2 years of experience in merchandising, sourcing, category management, or retail analytics.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to work with big data sets and glean actionable insights.
- Experience combining internal data with external benchmarks to guide decision-making.
- Experience working with customer data teams or in a similar role to integrate consumer insights.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable business insights.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with SQL, Python, or BI tools (preferably MS Fabric & Power BI) for data visualization.
- Strong communication skills in both written and oral forms.
- Experience in manufacturing sourcing is a plus.
