We are a fully integrated sand supply and services company, offering complete sand, logistics, storage, and management solutions to our customers with our in-basin trans-loading terminals and our smartsystem storage capabilities. We own and operate premium frac sand mines and related processing facilities in Wisconsin and Illinois, which have access to three Class I rail lines, allowing us to deliver products substantially anywhere in the United States and Canada.
We are currently looking for a Purchasing and Warehouse Specialist to join our Purchasing and Maintenance team at our Oakdale facility.
This position is primarily responsible for assisting in the purchase order process and ensuring that Smart Sand has the materials and services needed to function on a day-to-day basis while balancing quality with cost to ensure that the best purchase is made. This position is also responsible for maintaining the organization and flow of inventory in and through the warehouse and any other locations where inventory is stored.
The position will work under the supervision of the Accounting Supervisor and the Maintenance Manager. This position is based at our Oakdale facility and will work directly with other Finance & Accounting team members, department managers, and superintendents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Adheres to purchasing policies, processes procedures and safety regulations.
- Processes and maintains purchase requisitions from all departments as well as Van Hook ND, El Reno OK, and Waynesburg PA.
- Creates purchase orders and/or requisitions in Fiix, routes for approval, and properly maintains files.
- Close out purchase orders when applicable.
- Create inventory items and manages inventory locations in Fiix.
- Enters inventory usage in Fiix.
- Physically receives goods, matches packing slips to invoices, and routes appropriately.
- Research purchase orders or invoices when requested.
- Facilitate the new vendor approval process as needed.
- Ensures the warehouse and all inventory storage areas are clean and organized.
- Packages, ships, and tracks items that leave the site for return or repair.
- Functions as purchasing and receiving back-up for other entities.
- Responsible for acquiring and maintaining Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for chemicals and coordinating with the Safety team regarding same.
- Assists Finance and Operations teams with SOX compliance audits.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma required, Associates in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of inventory control experience and purchasing experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of purchasing methods, procedures, research methods, and techniques.
- Knowledge of accounting principles as related to procurement.
- Ability to analyze data and make sound judgments.
- Proficiency in the use and application of the following:
- Required: Microsoft Office Suite
- Preferred: Working knowledge of Fiix or another ERP system
- Great interpersonal and communication skills, outstanding administrative and organizational skills.
- Be a self-starter and work with minimal supervision.
- Have a willingness to work the hours necessary to assist in the month-end closing process.
- Operate forklifts, telehandlers, pallet jacks, skid steers, Kubota’s and any other equipment as needed.
