SmithCo Manufacturing, North America’s premier side dump trailer manufacturer, is seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to design, develop, and implement solutions that shape the future of our industry.
Summary: Mechanical Design Engineer will work as part of the engineering team to design, develop, and test new and existing trailer models. Designer will work in 2D or 3D modeling software to make it come to life. They will be responsible for the creation of prints and assemblies for the manufacturing floor. This person must be organized, detail orientated and able to track multiple projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities:
- Creating parts and assemblies in AutoCAD and Solidworks
- Researches new products and process techniques to continuously improve the overall design-development of trailers
- Investigates manufacturing floor issues and applies problem solving techniques to improve process and product design
- Maintain contact with production, purchasing & inventory regarding design changes/parts needs
- Balance workload and responsibilities across short and long term projects as assigned
- Communicate with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and suppliers as required
- Maintaining databases to record part and trailer information
Qualifications:
- Bachelor Science (BS) or Associate’s Degree (AA) in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Design, Product Design Technology or equivalent experience
- Experience in CAD design software (Solidworks; AutoCAD)
- Mechanical or Control Systems design experience required
- General computer software competencies (MS Excel; MS Word; Outlook)
- Knowledge of manufacturing techniques is preferred
- Ability to analyze problems and apply proper problem solving techniques
- Must be able to make decisions independently
- Good communication and team work skills required
- Trailer or heavy equipment design experience a plus
Position Type & Hours:
- This is a full-time position.
- Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. & Fridays 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Local travel may be required at times.
