Description : JOB SUMMARY
The Coordinator, Advocacy provides support for SMFM’s Advocacy Team, as well as SMFM’s Patient Safety & Quality Committee. The Coordinator engages with key members, stakeholders, and partners to advance deliverables for advocacy and patient safety and quality efforts. The Coordinator also provides support for the SMFM DATA Academy project, a multi-year, grant-funded program focused on?bridging the gap between maternal mortality review committee (MMRC) data and stakeholder action to reduce maternal deaths and improve health equity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Member Engagement
Provide support to the SMFM’s network of physician advocates, such as maintaining a list of active members, monitoring members’ advocacy interests, facilitating network and advocacy events supporting newsletter development, etc.
Maintain and update SMFM’s online advocacy hub.
Draft updates on advocacy initiatives and activities for SMFM’s internal and external communications channels.
Lead efforts to solicit nominations, nominate, and track service of SMFM members for key federal or partner advisory positions.
Policy
Track state and federal policy of interest to SMFM and keep advocacy team members informed of progress / opportunities.
Support development of SMFM advocacy tools, including letters, fact sheets, action alerts, draft testimony, talking points, position papers, and memos.
Attend meetings, briefings, hearings, and other events and provide written summaries.
Committee Support
Patient Safety & Quality Committee (PSQC)
Serve as primary staff liaison for PSQC, including supporting Committee leadership in hosting meetings, governance, and advancing committee projects.
Provide administrative support to PSQC, including scheduling, project tracking, meeting notes, roster maintenance, agenda prep, creating slides, etc.
Maintain patient safety and quality section of the SMFM website.
Coordinate with Publications team on approval, ongoing review, and maintenance of Committee documents.
Draft updates on patient safety and quality initiatives and activities for SMFM’s internal and external communications channels.
Coordinate with PSQC leadership to identify and track SMFM liaisons to external quality and safety organizations.
Health Policy & Advocacy Committee (HPAC)
Provide administrative support to HPAC, such as scheduling, project tracking, meeting notes, roster maintenance, document review, agenda prep, creating slides, etc.
Coordinate with Publications team on approval, ongoing review, and maintenance of Committee documents.
DATA Academy
Serving as the project coordinator for the DATA Academy, maintaining the project management tool, ensuring tasks are on track, and updating the team on the progress of key activities.
Scheduling virtual convenings and other meetings with staff, DATA Academy participants, and CDC colleagues.
Attending virtual and in-person meetings / convenings, providing event support, and taking and distributing meeting notes, as necessary.
Supporting efforts to maintain budget and program reporting.
Other ad hoc tasks as assigned.
Other
Assist in SMFM’s formal document review process.
Represent SMFM at meetings and conferences, as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements : QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study (e.g. public health, public policy, public affairs, political science, communications, etc.) and / or 2 years of professional experience in reproductive health, federal affairs, and / or state affairs.
Experience working for a membership association, grant-funded organization, legislative official, or public health agency a plus.
Good political judgement and a pragmatic approach to advancing policy.
High level of attention to detail and excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently, manage time, and effectively communicate the status of ongoing deliverables.
Skilled with Microsoft Office suite and virtual meeting platforms; familiarity with legislation tracking platforms and / or Canva a plus.
Commitment to SMFM positions and priorities, including access to abortion care throughout pregnancy, and willingness to adhere to confidentiality requirements.?
Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
While the position is virtual, preference will be given to applicants local to the Washington, DC, area and able to attend in-person meetings and events.
