Summary

 

Solidarity Center seeks an experienced trade unionist to fill one of two cross-regional management roles in its Program Coordination (PC) department. This position supports the strengthening of programs through cross-regional and cross department coordination and collaboration. The Coordinator for Cross Regional Programs and Learning works directly with the Director of Program Coordination in envisioning and developing more strategic, innovative, and impactful programs that support the governing beliefs and future growth of the Solidarity Center.

 

As the organization has grown, the work of the Program Coordination Department has expanded. The Coordinator for Cross Regional Programs and Learning will assist in the management of the Organizing and Strategic Research departments, as well as helping to resource Solidarity Center campaigns. This individual will coordinate collaboration across departments, ensuring that Organizing and Strategic Research programs are included in appropriate grant proposals from development to implementation. The Coordinator for Cross Regional Programs and Learning will assist the Director in convening the Thematic Table and Working Group leads to promote cross-regional collaboration, strategy, and learning. Additionally, the position includes coordinating with Regional Program Directors (RPDs) and their staff on program development and implementation.

 

Additionally, the Coordinator for Cross Regional Programs and Learning supports proposal development and project management by working with program teams on ideas and strategy development, logic models, narrative language, and donor engagement. This individual collaborates with Program Directors on global campaigns, grassroots internationalism, and a coordinated response to countries in crisis around democratic space. The Coordinator for Cross Regional Programs and Learning must have the trade union and grants management experience and skills to advise RPDs, Thematic Program Directors and staff on design and implementation of effective trade union programs. Additionally, the Coordinator for Cross Regional Programs and Learning liaises with the Department of Program Quality, Learning, and Compliance (PQLC) to develop processes that support proposal development and implementation along with program learning, reporting, and broader donor relations.

 

This individual is a member of the Solidarity Center management team and plays an institutional management role in addition to sharing in the direct management of department staff.

  

Qualifications: 

 

  • Broad knowledge of international trade union, socio-economic, and political issues, and the ability to articulate them in public settings
  • 10 years of experience in the U.S. and international trade union movement and its institutions
  • Significant experience developing and leading union programs or campaigns, and strategy, including organizing, bargaining, and advocacy outside the US and in the global south
  • Experience managing complex teams to accomplish goals
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to and communicate effectively with diverse groups of people
  • Exceptional skills in program and financial management
  • In-depth understanding of Federal grant-related policies and procedures
  • Proficiency in a foreign language (desirable but not required)

 

Candidates for the position should have an academic background, preferably a degree, in labor relations, political science, or international affairs, or a minimum of 7 years equivalent work experience. Exceptional writing, editing, and analytical skills are required. Basic understanding and use of technology including Google Suite, Zoom or other remote meeting applications, Microsoft Suite including word processing, spreadsheet skills, and PowerPoint, are required. 

 

This position entails extensive travel to the field (30%) for supervisory program management and program development purposes.

 

Supervisor: Director of Program Coordination

 

Specific Duties:

  • Serve as a leader in creating and implementing impactful programming while executing the 20 program strategy
  • Work in partnership with Program Directors to support program department staff in the development of effective proposals
  • Liaise with PQLC to develop processes to produce proposals, reports, and other items key to the success of quality programming and communication with funders
  • Coordinate with PQLC/MEL to develop Learning Plan and indicators for Programs
  • Assist Director of Programs Coordination with resourcing strategic programs including annual core funding allocations and strategic use of sweep-up to help build impactful programs
  • Assist with convening the Thematic Table to ensure collaboration with regions
  • Assist in the oversight of Organizing and Strategic Research programs grants management system, guide, and support staff in the creation and implementation of systems. Identifying under and overspending and assisting departments with plans to address issues
  • Assist Director of Programs Coordination in convening RPD Roundtable and Program Table
  • Collaborate with RPDs and Thematic Directors in reviewing proposals to ensure sound methodologies; participate in pre-proposal strategy discussions competitive grants, help develop/review logic models and proposal narratives to provide feedback
  • Support staff in proposal development and report writing by providing model cases, program language and cross-regional examples relevant to the proposed projects
  • Coordinate with the Grassroots Internationalism Specialist to assist regions in developing relationships with US unions and the broader progressive communities
  • Collaborate with Program Coordination, Program departments, and PQLC on outreach to funders; assist with narrative development and identifying work to highlight for funders and external groups
  • Promote an atmosphere of cooperation, coordination, and respect among staff at all levels and across departmental/regional lines
  • Promote equity and equality of opportunity for all staff
  • Know and follow Solidarity Center policies and procedures; ensure staff are aware of and comply with same; ensure financial and program reporting and compliance with SC policies and donor policies

This is a management position, generously compensated with a gross annual salary of approximately $169,000 a year. A robust benefits package includes fully paid health insurance, a retirement plan and pension, life insurance, and ample paid time off for holidays, vacation, and medical leave. Pre-tax deduction programs are also available for commuting, dependent care, and health care expenses. In addition, we offer opportunities and funds for professional development.
