Job Description / Summary

The Manager of Facilities is responsible for 120,000 square feet of educational, medical, retail and administrative space for Sonoran University of Health Sciences in Tempe. This person leads a team of employees and contractors focused on maintenance, janitorial and security to ensure duties are completed safely, effectively, and properly documented within OSHA standards.

Manager must be as comfortable preparing a budget, negotiating contracts, supervising personnel, attending leadership meetings, and climbing on to a roof top to work on an a / c unit all in the same day. This is a hands-on leadership position. Five day a week on-site work presence is required.

  • Responds to requests for maintenance, custodial services, furniture movement, and HVAC
  • Maintain an excellent customer service relationship – timely and courteous responses to facility requests critical
  • Foster a positive work environment with staff and customers
  • Coordinates third party vendors for maintenance agreements, custodial services, HVAC large repairs, landscaping, and pest control
  • Ensures grounds are maintained free from weeds and litter
  • Support on-site events conducted at the facility and provides needed set-up
  • Maintain Emergency preparedness program
  • Evaluate physical buildings, assets, equipment, and processes for compliance to standards
  • Promote commitment to environmental health and safety by adhering to safety practices, investigating concerns, and making recommendations
  • Oversee and execute the hands-on maintenance duties necessary to maintain and enhance the value of the facility. This includes consistent inspections and diagnosing problems and making necessary repairs in areas such as electrical, plumbing, flooring, security camaras, dry walling, appliances, and exterior structures
  • Ensure compliance with all health, fire, and safety related items

Qualifications Required :

  • Two years of college or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities AND project or program management experience
  • Commitment to customer service; a “yes, we can” attitude
  • OSHA 10 hour and / or 30 Hour card. BOMA, IFMA, LEED Certifications a plus
  • Willing to go “above and beyond” to satisfy the customer
  • Ability to coach staff in a constructive manner
  • Provide solutions that address and align to broader business requirements and strategic initiatives
  • Extensive knowledge in the following areas : Plumbing, Electrical, Maintenance, HVAC, Landscape Maintenance, and OSHA-related standards
  • Knowledge of building systems
  • Knowledge of security operations and procedures is preferred
  • Bi-lingual English / Spanish helpful
  • Working Environment

    This position is on 24-emergency call. OSHA certification is required within 1 year of employment. This position may require strenuous lifting of 50 pounds, bending, climbing, etc.

    This is a 100% on-site position in Tempe, AZ.

    Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling of up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and / or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Communicate to perform essential functions.
