Paraprofessional-Kindergarten

The job of Paraprofessional is done for the purpose/s of assisting in the achievement of class and individual student objectives by working with individual and/or small groups of students under the supervision of a classroom teacher in the supervision and instruction of students; preparing assigned classroom projects; and providing clerical support to teacher/s.

• Administers tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the instructional process.
• Assists students, individually or in small groups, for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
• Assists in the implementation of instructional programs and lesson plans, under the supervision of a classroom teacher, for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students’ academic success through a defined course of study.
• Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
• Guides students in independent study in a wide variety of ways (e.g. enrichment work, remedial work, listening to children, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring student success.
• Maintains classroom equipment, work area, students files/records (e.g. adapting instructional materials, cleaning work area, taking attendance, checking homework, grading papers, audio visual equipment, bulletin boards, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or providing reliable information.
• Monitors students in a wide variety of locations and situations (e.g. classroom, library, lunchroom, playground, field trips, hallways, to/from bus, etc.) for the purpose of identifying required assistance, reinforcing appropriate behavior and social skills, and ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.
• Performs record keeping and general clerical functions (e.g. copying, prepare instructional material, correcting papers, recording attendance, taking and recording phone calls, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or in providing necessary records/materials.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
• Prepares documents as maybe required by teacher (e.g. memos, displays, etc.) for the purpose of providing written documentation and/or conveying information.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Hold an associate’s degree or higher in any subject; or
2. Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment.  If eligibility is established through the assessment, the applicant must also hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Employment Terms:  6 hours/day

                               186 days/year
