Duties
- Assist optometrists during eye examinations and procedures.
- Maintain accurate patient records while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Educate patients on proper eye care and optical products.
- Perform preliminary tests such as visual acuity and tonometry.
- Manage appointment scheduling and patient follow-ups.
- Handle sales of optical products and eyewear, providing recommendations based on patient needs.
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the examination rooms and equipment.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient care.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy.
- Proficiency in medical terminology related to optometry and ophthalmology.
- Familiarity with optical products and sales techniques.
- Understanding of anatomy relevant to eye care practices.
- Experience with medical coding for insurance purposes is a plus.
- Knowledge of electronic health record systems such as Epic is beneficial.
- Ability to implement aseptic techniques in clinical settings.
