SOS Care in Myrtle Beach is a nonprofit organization and is seeking Camp Counselors for our Summer Camp Program for children with autism and intellectual disabilities in our Charleston Service Area. The Camp Counselor will provide support and assistance to campers between the ages of 5 and 12 who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder/intellectual disabilities. The Camp Counselors will report to the summer camp program manager and summer camp supervisor. Experience in special education, special needs or autism services are preferred. Additionally, Camp Counselors will receive additional training from our qualified staff in May or June (prior to the commencement of camp). Background checks will be completed by SOS Care. This is a great opportunity for individuals interested in expanding their horizons in special education while at the same time, earning extra income over the summer......and you get to help others.
Duties Include:
*Assist in preparation/planning as requested
*Assist in community outreach as requested
*Assist in managing and planning a daily program schedule as requested
*Oversee and maintain the safety of SOS Care's campers
*Implement activities for SOS Care's campers
*Follow and implement daily schedule for campers
*Maintain records/documents for participants
*Participate in aquatic activities with participants as required (must be able to swim)
*Assist other staff in assuring care of participants
*Assist with maintenance and upkeep of work area, should the need arise
*Attend all necessary training as offered by qualified staff/trainers
*Report any issues/injuries to the Camp Manager/Supervisors, etc.
*Assist with daily living skills (eating, changing for swim, putting items away, administering medication, and other such responsibilities
*Create a positive and supportive camp environment for all campers.
Job Type: Temporary/Summer/Up to 32 hours per week, MONDAY Through THURSDAY
Salary: $17.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 8:00-8:15 until 4:00-4:15 Monday through Thursday
Experience:
- working with people with disabilities: 1 year (Required)
License/Certification:
- First Aid Certification (Preferred)
- CPR Certification (Preferred)
