Job Purpose
Youth Grievance and Family Support Administrator oversees the grievance process within 5 correctional facilities including 9 camps ensuring that the rights, concerns, and welfare of detained youth are addressed in a fair, timely, and effective manner. This position involves supervising grievance coordinators, fostering a safe and respectful environment while maintaining compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements. Youth Grievance and Family Support Administrator serves as a neutral party, advocating for procedural fairness and promoting restorative justice principles.
Job Responsibilities
Supervises and manages the facility’s grievance process to ensure efficiency, accessibility and procedural fairness.
Monitors grievance filings, reviews, investigations, and outcomes to ensure compliance with established timelines and policies.
Oversees a team of grievance coordinators, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
Ensures thorough and unbiased investigations into grievances, addressing complaints related to living conditions, staff conduct, safety, and other facility matters.
Collaborates with relevant departments, including medical, mental health, and security, to facilitate resolutions.
Approves and implements corrective actions, policy changes, or disciplinary measures as appropriate.
Maintains compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations governing youth grievance procedures.
Prepares detailed reports on grievance activity, trends, and outcomes for facility leadership and oversight bodies.
Responds to audits or inquiries from external agencies regarding the grievance process.
Develops, updates, and enforces grievance policies and procedures to align with legal requirements and best practices.
Ensures grievance policies are clearly communicated to staff and detained youth.
Evaluates and improves grievance procedures based on feedback and trends.
Provides training staff on grievance policies, procedures, and the importance of impartiality and professionalism.
Promotes a culture of accountability, fairness, and respect in handling complaints.
Ensures detained youth are informed of their rights and the grievance process during orientation and throughout their incarceration.
Serves as a point of escalation for complex or high-priority grievances.
Promotes trust in the grievance system by ensuring impartiality and transparency in all actions.
Performs other duties as assigned to support the department and agency.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor’s degree and relevant program experience.
Additional Requirements
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work in and travel to institutional settings, interact with diverse populations, manage emotional and psychological stress, maintain professional composure.
Knowledge of juvenile justice systems, restorative justice principles, and trauma-informed practices.
Proficiency in relevant software for tracking and reporting grievances.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and impartiality.
Strong knowledge of grievance systems, correctional facility operations, and regulatory requirements.
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
Exceptional investigative, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
Must be able to sit for a prolonged period.
Must be able to lift 5 lbs. with the ability to reach and bend.
Occasional lifting of files, records, or supplies (up to 20lbs).
Able to operate various office equipment and computers; and be able to travel on a limited basis.
Work is performed in a secure juvenile facility, requiring interaction with youth, staff, and external parties.
May involve exposure to high-stress situations and challenging interpersonal dynamics.
This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
A master's degree and at least three (3) years of work experience in juvenile justice, child welfare, advocacy, and facility oversight. Experience in conflict mediation, grievance management, cultural competency, interpersonal communication and analytical problem solving in a juvenile or adult correctional setting.
