Description:
The Ortho Tech/Cast Tech is responsible for dispensing Durable Medical Equipment along with cast and splint applications and removals as directed by providers to clinical staff.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Ancillary Services, Ortho Tech/Cast Tech is a member of the Ancillary Services department, a clinical support department providing services related to medications, injectables, durable medical equipment, and casting.

Responsibilities include:
1. Brace fitting and application.
2. Cast application and removal.
3. Splint application and removal.
4. Utilize DME dispensing software to run benefits and provide cost estimates for products.
5. Obtain insurance authorization for DME products dispensed in the office.
6. Contact and schedule patient bracing fitting appointments after authorization is received.
7. Provide telephone support to patients related to casting/splinting.
8. Maintain a clean and well-stocked casting area.
9. Stock casting and splinting supplies in appropriate quantities to meet practice demand.
10. Is a member of the clinical team, assisting physicians and physician assistants in delivering direct patient care.
11. Document activity in EMR
12. Travel between South Florida Orthopaedics office locations
13. Follow established policies, procedures and protocols defined by South Florida Orthopaedics
14. Other duties in support of the goals and objectives of the Ancillary Services department and South Florida Orthopaedics
Requirements:
1. Experience in a clinical setting, with at least 1 year of employment. Preferred experience as a cast tech/ortho tech or Orthopaedics.
2. Experienced in treating all life stages, preferred pediatrics.
3. Dedication to patient satisfaction and teamwork with excellent public relations and customer service skills.
4. Demonstrates a positive attitude and professional demeanor.
5. Is dependable and flexible; takes initiative and follows through.
6. Can demonstrate mental focus, with the ability to recall information and apply knowledge in a fast-paced medical environment.
7. Excellent problem-solving skills, knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology, and basic insurance knowledge.
8. Skilled at managing multiple competing priorities with a friendly demeanor
9. Dependable and reliable with superior work attendance habits
10. Excellent bedside manner
11. Takes a team-oriented approach to work
12. EMR experience required, preferably NextGen.
