What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Lifeguard position at Southeast Application Consortium?
- Lifeguards will attend staff training on the evening of May 28th, and will attend one to two further trainings throughout the summer.
- Lifeguards will be alert to patrons, and be prepared to respond to all situations requiring attention, whether on deck or in the pool.
- Lifeguards will arrive at least fifteen minutes early and ensure the lesson venue is safe and ready for patrons.
- Lifeguards will wear a rescue tube and provide their own whistle and stocked fanny pack.
- Lifeguards will remain at lifeguard post and stay focused throughout the duration of lessons
- Lifeguards will maintain order of the facility, most specifically with regards to patron behaviors while in the water and on deck.
- Lifeguards will oversee child behavior, and with the help of the program supervisor and recreation coordinator, implement the disciplinary action plan as needed.
- Lifeguards will be prepared to execute the EMS plan and know how to respond to emergency situations.
- Lifeguards will communicate any concerns to the recreation coordinator.
- Lifeguards will keep track of time worked and record on timesheet
- Lifeguards will openly communicate with the recreation coordinator, in a timely manner, regarding vacation requests, program issues, etc.
- Lifeguards will be required to work up to two Saturday swim lessons, or two evening swim lessons.

Northfield Public Schools Community Education is now accepting applications to fill lifeguard staffing needs for summer swim lessons. Lifeguards are responsible for working at the designated lesson times, and will oversee the safety of patrons while lessons are being conducted. Recreation positions will be scheduled for program specific hours, usually mornings 4 – 5 days a week, beginning on June 9, and running through mid August. Aquatic staff will be required to sign up to work two additional swim lesson dates on a Saturday or weekday evening, and will attend one to two further training sessions throughout the summer. Lifeguards should schedule absences around scheduled work time. Family vacations, sport camps, etc. are to be expected, however absences may not exceed five days, and no vacation will be granted during the first or last week of programming, unless in rare circumstances, and approved by the recreation coordinator in advance. There will be no recreation programming June 30 - July 4, 2025.
