The Fleet and Safety Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation and safety of Southeast Building Supply Interests (SBSI). This individual will be responsible for managing the company’s fleet of vehicles, maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and spearheading safety initiatives that protect employees, customers, and assets.
In this role, the Fleet and Safety Manager will oversee all aspects of fleet maintenance and optimization, ensuring vehicles are operationally sound and cost-efficient while staying compliant with FMCSA and DOT regulations. This includes managing preventive maintenance schedules, coordinating vehicle repairs, ensuring accurate and timely tag renewals and registrations, and analyzing fleet performance data to improve efficiency.
On the safety side, the Fleet and Safety Manager will lead SBSI’s efforts to build a robust safety culture. This includes developing and implementing role-specific training programs, conducting workplace and facility safety inspections, and ensuring compliance with OSHA standards. Additionally, the Manager will oversee the activities of the company’s safety committee, manage the upkeep and annual review of safety documentation (e.g., Safety Handbook), and collaborate with facility managers to maintain a safe working environment.
This position requires a proactive and detail-oriented leader who can manage multiple priorities while driving results. The ideal candidate will have the ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on execution, working collaboratively with branch managers and leadership to align fleet and safety initiatives with SBSI’s broader business objectives. By enhancing fleet efficiency and promoting safety across all operations, the Fleet and Safety Manager will contribute directly to the company’s operational success and long-term growth.
Requirements : Fleet Management
- Fleet Maintenance :
- Oversee preventive maintenance and repair schedules for all company vehicles, including delivery trucks, trailers, forklifts, and service vehicles.
- Coordinate with third-party vendors and in-house mechanics to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs and maintenance.
- Monitor fleet health through regular inspections and diagnostics, ensuring all vehicles meet safety and operational standards.
- FMCSA Compliance :
- Ensure full compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS), vehicle inspections, driver qualifications, and electronic logging device (ELD) requirements.
- Maintain and audit driver qualification files, vehicle inspection records, and compliance documentation.
- Tag Renewal & Registration :
- Manage annual vehicle tag renewals and registrations, ensuring all company vehicles are legally operable.
- Keep accurate and up-to-date records of vehicle titles, tags, and registrations.
- Fleet Optimization :
- Monitor fleet performance metrics, including fuel efficiency, mileage, and downtime, to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Develop and implement policies on vehicle usage, driver conduct, and route optimization to improve operational efficiency.
