General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Physical Plant Director of the Beatrice campus, the Bus Driver is primarily focused on operating those vehicles used to transport passengers on specified routes to local or distant points according to time schedule. This is a part-time temporary position.
Essential Functions
- Inspect the vehicle prior to each use to ensure proper and safe operations.
- Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger’s comfort.
- Transports passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to a time schedule. Makes overnight drives and extended trips requiring irregular hours.
- Complies with all applicable traffic regulations and reports all delays and accidents in an appropriate manner.
- Ensure passenger safety upon entry and exit from the bus and throughout the duration of the trip.
- Secures the vehicle when passengers have embarked to ensure safety and security precautions are met.
- Reports any necessary repairs and, in consultation with the Physical Plant director and/or the designee, makes arrangements for routine maintenance and repairs to be performed.
- Conforms to and complies with all applicable federal and state transportation guidelines and requirements.
- Fill up the bus with gasoline prior to returning to campus and do a post-trip inspection on the bus when returned.
- Cleans the inside of the vehicle as necessary or as requested.

- Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to operate within all policies and procedures of Southeast Community College
- Current CDL license category (CDL B or CDL C with Passenger Endorsement) appropriate to driving College-owned and/or rented passenger vehicles.
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work and cooperate with coaches, faculty, staff, and supervisory staff of the college
- Ability to work and travel at various hours including nights and weekends, when required
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with all applicable responsibilities set forth by the U.S. DOT and appropriate Department of Motor Vehicles for the State of Nebraska.
- Individuals must possess the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current CDL Class B or C with Passenger Endorsements
- Verifiable Two (2) years driving experience
- Applicants driving record and criminal background check must meet or exceed the minimum requirements of the College and the insurance carrier.
- Ability to qualify for auto insurance coverage.
- Must pass the pre-employment DOT drug test.

Part-time temporary employees are eligible to participate in the TIAA retirement plan through a Roth, SRA, or 457(B) account, with no match provided by the College.
Schedule
Normal hours of work for this part-time regular position are scheduled by the College generally Monday through Friday, based on a 29-hour workweek, based on a 260-day work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek.
