Primary Responsibilities
- Provide analytical oversight, fulfills compliance requirements, and performs post-award accounting for grants and contracts
- Work closely with staff in other departments, stays abreast of new regulations and guidance from sponsoring agencies, researches and resolves problems, and proactively ensures grant and contracts administration complies with institutional, agency, and governmental policies and procedures
- Reconcile and prepare grant and other invoices, monitor state appropriations, complete electronic draws on government/agency websites, approve expenditures, monitor budgets and ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance, grant agreements and University policies and procedures
- Prepare financial and grant internal and external reports, surveys and other analysis using Excel, Access, Word and Banner. This includes FISAP, SEFA, Departmental reports, IPEDS etc.
- Assist in the preparation of year end audit entries, complex audit workpapers and schedules, footnotes and ties out workpapers to the trial balance.
- Evaluate internal processes, systems, reporting and other applicable department functions to determine where efficiencies and/or opportunities may be gained for the betterment of the post award department
- Provide assistance and expertise to other employees in the Controller's Office and across campus
- Ensure workload is prioritized so tasks are accomplished in a timely manner and deadlines are met
- Apply generally accepted accounting principles, Uniform Guidance and federal and state regulations correctly; Ensure the University does not have audit findings or lose funding
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- Minimum of one year of accounting experience; Experience managing audits and assisting with internal/external audit processes a plus; Experience at a non-profit or similar position with exposure to grant accounting including how to apply grant-specific regulations (such as Uniform Guidance or specific agency guidelines) and reporting a plus
- Minimum one year of experience with Word, Excel, and Access; Experience using Excel, Word and Access; Experience with various ERP systems is a plus
- Financial reporting experience with internal and external regulations
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); Experience with Governmental (GASB) or Non-Profit (FASB) is a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
