Southern Auto Auction is searching for a Facilities Assistant to join our team. Southern Auto Sales (SAS) is New England’s largest auto auction. Our clean, bright, modern facility hosts a live auction each Wednesday, with participation from buyers and sellers throughout the US, and weekly sales typically exceeding 2,000 vehicles. In business since 1947, SAS is renowned for its world-class auto auctions and family atmosphere.

Summary:

Perform all building and grounds maintenance related tasks using all types of equipment both manual, mechanical, and electrical in a professional manner. Operating both small and large vehicles and machinery in order to maintain interior and exterior cleanliness. Follow all safety and OSHA regulations while performing daily tasks.

Essential Functions and Activities: Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned, including assisting with other Auction functions.

Buildings Maintenance

1. Maintain building interior including, but not limited to walls, floors, windows, auction bays, rest rooms, work areas, etc.

2. Move office furnitureand equipment(file cabinets, desks, chairs, etc.) to different locations in buildings or to storage areas.

3.Assist office workers with files needing to be moved to and from the storage area.

4.Maintain cleanliness in all public rest rooms on premises and ensure adequate sanitary supplies at all locations.

5. Use power and hand tools when repairs are needed to the building or equipment.

6. Comply with OSHA regulations when using hazardous chemicals on company premises; comply with company safety regulations.

7. Support the Facilities Manager in carrying out the daily responsibilities of the department.

8. Power wash auction lanes on a weekly basis using manual and ride-on machines.

9. Maintain all emergency equipment to proper working order and know location of all fire extinguishers, etc., in case of emergency situations.

10. Light electrical work-changing light bulbs and ballast etc.

11. Operate electric lifts and floor cleaning equipment.

12. Operate and drive company vehicles and other heavy equipment/vehicles daily.

Grounds Maintenance

1. Removal of all litter on auction grounds and deposit it in proper containers for contractual removal by outside vendor.

2. Repair fences on company property to ensure grounds security.

3. Maintain and repair grounds by lawn mowing, tree trimming, leaf raking, hedge trimming, etc.

4. Maintain asphalt, curbing, etc. for needed repairs throughout the year

5. Assist with snow removal and ice control either with power equipment or manually.

Other duties may include (but not limited to):

1. Auction Day duties may include moving dealer cars through auction lanes or to designated parking spaces in the lot.

2. Administering basic first aid (after training) to employees or dealers until paramedics arrive.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and or ability required. EDUCATION and or EXPERIENCE

1. High School diploma or equivalent.

2. At least 2 years’ experience in electrical, HVAC, landscaping, cleaning, and mechanical repair.

3. Knowledge of OSHA compliance procedures and hazardous chemical records management.

4. Ability to utilize computer and cell phone to work efficiently within scope of job duties.

5. Degree in vocational school preferred.

Safety and OSHA Compliance

1. Ensure compliance with OSHA hazardous chemical regulations.

2. Maintain a current file on all SDS sheets pertaining to all chemicals used by the company in a well-defined and accessible area for all employees who may come in contact with these chemicals.

3. Provide continuing training for incumbents on all OSHA regulations to ensure job safety. Ensure compliance with company safety rules.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGITRATIONS

Valid Driver’s License & Clean driving record

“Normal” mental/cognitive ability, as well as quick reflexes and alertness. The ability to use intuitive judgment. The ability to attend to many details accurately.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

“Normal shop activity”. Heavy physical activity must be able to lift 60lbs. Move inside and outside the building in all weather conditions. Be able to continuously bend, squat, kneel, crouch, push, pull, climb, stand, sit, walk, go up and down stairsand drive for long periods of time. Able to move between numerous facilities locations. The employee is frequently required to climb to high heights. Must be able to operate various power tools (saws, lawnmowers, snow blowers, pressure washer, vacuums, trash carts, brooms, mops, sledgehammers, hammers, hand tools, dolly’s, razors, etc.)

Schedule: Full-time, more than 40 hours may be required, according to business needs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be subject to the outside elements, rain, snow, heat and cold.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, except on Auction days when the noise level is loud.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
